Blood Drive Helps PCH Employees Give Back To The Community!

Giving! It seems to be a familiar theme here at PCH. The Prize Patrol is always giving away money… and during our recent blood drive, PCH employees got a chance to give back to the community, too. In fact, well over 100 PCHers pledged to roll up their sleeves and save lives by donating!

“We’re very excited to have a record number of employees volunteer to be blood donors,” said Darlene F., who has organized the blood drive here at PCH for many years. “Most companies have an average of 10% of their workforce volunteer, but PCHers are such compassionate and wonderful people that we go way and above  … with nearly 25% of our workforce participating. That’s HUGE!”

And it was huge! On the day of the blood drive, all sorts of equipment were brought in to transform our sizable cafeteria into a PCH blood center! But, the preparation began long before they arrived on the scene. For weeks, team captains (including Danielle Lam of the Prize Patrol) had been working behind the scenes getting their departments mobilized and ready to make a difference.

Well everyone’s efforts really paid off! Tons of PCH employees came out to give back to the community. Here’s Matt S. giving me a thumbs up!  ”The blood drive absolutely made my day,” he exclaimed. “There’s no better feeling than knowing I’ve made a positive difference in the lives of others.“

Then I caught up with fellow blogger Matt K., as he was enjoying a post-donation snack. “As a universal donor, I love to give as often as I can. Of course, the tasty treats afterwards don’t hurt either,” Matt quipped.

Here’s some of the gang from my department showing off their multi-colored “badges of honor”!  I think they look like super heroes! But, actually, they’re even better than super heroes, because they just did something that will save lives ― for real!

• Every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood.
• More than 44,000 blood donations are needed every day.
• A single car accident victim can require as many as 100 pints of blood.
• The average adult has about 10 pints of blood in his or her body. Roughly 1 pint is given during a donation.

It’s true that not everyone is able to give blood. But for those who can, it’s a worthwhile endeavor and great way to make a difference.

Hello there PCH Fans!

If you follow me on Twitter (@NatalieatPCH) and on Facebook (Natalie Bostleman), you might have noticed that I went on a very quick trip a while back.  I didn’t say much, because I wanted to wait until the date was closer!

Where did I go? What did I do? Well, I went to sunny California! Boy was that nice. It was freezing in my home state of Ohio at the time. Although I do have family there, the purpose of my trip was Publishers Clearing House based.

“You gave away a check!” You say. No… I wish! You know I love to do that. Let me give you a hint. I got to see the HOLLYWOOD sign as I landed.

Yep, I went to the greater LA area! And what’s in Los Angeles you ask? Lots of stuff, like great restaurants. Here I am with my cousins Chris and Cloris at a local pub called, “Father’s Office”.

Trust me, when that was suggested, I thought, “Um, Uncle Bob’s office is in Toledo…” Hah! So I plugged it into PCHSearchandWin and finally understood what it was!

But like I said, not the main purpose of my trip. Here’s a clue. I had to get made up, and when I did, the hairstylist had to use a little “Hairspray” on me. I’m glad I wasn’t a “Cry-Baby”, because it was such a good experience!

I got to go-go on the Ricki Lake Show!

That’s right! I went on the Ricki Lake Show to talk about my wonderful experience winning the PCH Sweepstakes and how it changed my life! I will appear on a show that involves the positive aspects of coming into a windfall, and the sometimes negative aspects of having a large amount of money. I think you can figure out by now that I was talking about the POSITIVE! You blog readers know that even 5 years after my PCH Sweepstakes win I was able to buy my own dream car! And my winnings also helped me build my dream home! The show was fascinating, and it really showed me that I am short. SO SHORT! (Haha, you’ll have to watch the show to understand what I’m talking about!)

Like I said in my hint, professional make-up and hair artists gussied me up. I even got my own Green Room! I KNOW! Crazy! And yes, I got to meet Ricki who is as sweet as pie, and I conversed with some of the other guests, like Susan Bradely of the Sudden Money Institute and Emil Harker of Denovo Management. I loved getting their take on money management.

Did You Watch The PCH Prize Patrol On Let’s Make A Deal?

Last week we told you that the PCH Prize Patrol was appearing on a week’s worth of episodes on Let’s Make A Deal! Did you check them out from May 6^th  – May 10^th? I hope so because it was fantastic! You blog readers know that this was not the first time that the Prize Patrol appeared on the game show. They enjoyed the first experience so much that they just HAD to go back and award more money to lucky winners!

Participating in Let’s Make A Deal is always a blast for the Prize Patrol – they give away $20,000 EVERY DAY! You know that Dave, Todd and Danielle are three are old pros when it comes to surprising winners with big money, but I had to know: how does awarding prizes on a game show, in front of a live audience, compare to surprising big sweepstakes winners at home? I went right to the source, Danielle Lam, PCH Prize Patrol Elite.

Laura: How does the energy on a game show set compare to surprising winners at their homes or workplaces?

Danielle:  That’s a really great question. Being on the set of a game show like Let’s Make A Deal is such a unique experience. The audience members are SO enthusiastic about having a chance to be on the show. When we award PCH prizes all around the country, we NEVER tell our winners that we are coming so it’s a complete surprise when we show up at the door. One thing that game show winners and PCH winners DO have in common though is that they are SO HAPPY to win money!!

Laura: What kinds of reactions did the winners on Let’s Make A Deal have?

Danielle:  This is the second time we’ve been on the show. It was hard for me to imagine having winners just as excited and enthusiastic as the first time we were there…but these winners were just as great! I loved surprising Derrick Burgan Jr., Melissa Duchaine, Angela Murray, Julia Walling and Catherine Biermann with their Big Checks! Lots of jumping, screaming and even some dancing!

Laura: Were you ever nervous to appear in front of the audience?

Danielle:  Honestly, not really!  The cast and crew were so welcoming and warm, it was as if we were part of the Let’s Make A Deal family. I was just so excited to award those big $20,000 checks!

Laura: Did you meet Wayne Brady, host of Let’s Make A Deal?

Danielle: Well this is my favorite question. My friends and family know that I’ve been a Wayne Brady fan for years and years. Actually, Wayne was the one who inspired me to get into theater and acting. I used to watch him on Whose Line Is It Anyway and the Wayne Brady Show…he is such an amazing talent – singer, dancer, performer, improv extraordinaire – there’s nobody better!!  This is the second time we’ve been on the show so it was so great to see him again. Wayne is truly one of the nicest and funniest celebrities I have ever met. Being backstage with him is like being in the audience of the Wayne Brady Show (man I miss that show!).
