Does $1000 Prize Winner Owe Win to Buddhist Chant?

Before he was a $1000 PCHSearchandWin Prize Winner,  Richard R. From Nashua, NH used PCHSearchandWin “most every day” for almost 4 years! After being contacted by the PCH Winner Outreach Program, Richard shared his experience leading up to his winning moment in the following story:

“A few days before I won the PCH Search contest, I told Leslie (my sweetheart girlfriend) that I wished I had some Money to give my son who is having trouble finding work that will allow him to take care of his family. On the morning that I played and won, I called Leslie to the computer and said, “Give me word and bring me luck.” She thought for just a few seconds and said, “sunset.”   I typed it in and the message offering me congratulations popped up.

She replied, “I know why you won.” “Why?” I questioned. She answered, “Because I chanted Nam-myoho-renge-kyo last night while holding compassion for both you and Randy.  I knew how much you wanted to help him if you only had the money. Unlike me, Leslie practices Buddhist traditions and was convinced that this chant that comes from the title of the Lotus Sutra was instrumental in my win.

Whether it was the chanting, the meeting of chance and fate, or just the fact that I had played SearchandWin so many times over the years with hope of winning that my determination alone tipped the odds in my favor . . .I did, finally, win a prize, and that was the best surprise of all. I would like to say that I put it toward a trip to an exotic island, but I had many bills to pay and was grateful for the financial help at that time.”

What do you think of Richard’s prize winner story? Comment below!

I think Richard’s is a GREAT story!!

Just the fact that he was wishing for some monies to “help” not only himself..but someone else.. shows a great spirit..
Isn’t that a goal that we ALL have here?? An opportunity to SHARE THE WEALTH in someway??
I know that is MY intentions with my family & grandson & causes close to my heart!!!!

Isn’t that the SPIRIT behind PCH?
Sharing their profits with others!!

Also a faith in a power above ourselves.. as I have a GREAT FAITH in GOD.. & HIS promise of rewards for those that do GOOD.

Even in these hard times.. I beleive that HE will see me through all things..

And also the fact that prayer & persistence CAN pay off!!

So glad you won Richard!!

I hope that I can tell a story like that someday!!!

I believe in this World all things are all possible, I believe in things that cannot be seen. I believe in impossible Dreams.

Buddhism is different from other religions. For example, the central focus of most religions is God, or gods. But Buddhism is non-theistic. The “Buddha” taught that believing in gods was not useful for those seeking to realize enlightenment.

Most religions are defined by their beliefs. But in Buddhism, merely believing in doctrines is beside the point. The Buddha said that we should not accept doctrines just because we read them in scripture or are taught them by priests.

The foundation of Buddhism is the Four Noble Truths.

1.The truth of suffering (dukkha)
2.The truth of the cause of suffering (samudaya)
3.The truth of the end of suffering (nirhodha)
4.The truth of the path that frees us from suffering (magga)

It is a philosophy because philosophy ‘means love of wisdom’ and the Buddhist path can be summed up as:

(1) to lead a moral life,
(2) to be mindful and aware of thoughts and actions, and
(3) to develop wisdom and understanding.

Buddhism explains a purpose to life, it explains apparent injustice and inequality around the world, and it provides a code of practice or way of life that leads to true happiness.

Buddhism is essentially about seeking enlightenment and peace
through this Journey called Life, and what you do in this life can inadvertenly affect how your next life will play out through your own “Karma.”

-Seek and You shall find…”

The mind is everything; what you think you become.
-The Buddha

-A mind now clouded by the illusions of the innate darkness of life is like a tarnished mirror, but when polished, it is sure to become like a clear mirror, reflecting the essential nature of phenomena and the true aspect of reality. Arouse deep faith, and diligently polish your mirror day and night. How should you polish it? Only by chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo” (The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin.)

Nichiren established the chanting of Nam-myoho-renge-kyo as the way to awaken one’s Buddha nature and tap into the deepest levels of our existence, on which our own lives and that of the universe are one.

Myoho-renge-kyo is the name of the Lotus Sutra in Japanese pronunciation of classical Chinese characters, and so the literal meaning of Nam-myoho-renge-kyo is “I devote myself to the Lotus Sutra.”

Nam derives from the Sanskrit word namu, meaning “to devote oneself.”

Myoho literally means the Mystic Law–the underlying truth or principle which governs the mysterious workings of the universe and our life from moment to moment.

Renge means lotus flower.

Kyo literally means sutra, the voice or teaching of a Buddha. In this sense, it also means sound, rhythm or vibration. In a broad sense, kyo conveys the concept that all things in the universe are a manifestation of the Mystic Law.

I’s always loved this Budda quote. What you think, you become.
Seek and you shall find.
The world would be at peace if there were no ” Labels” attached to people, places and things. Many wars start because of such labels. I SEE a Human being, not the labels that “become” attached to them, such as race, religion, etc. We are all in this together! We are all equal in spirit!

You kno, I really hope that I win because I’ve noticed that all Gail Block wants is a car/truck. If I win, I would surely get you that car. I’m definitely praying that your faith is increased and that you just keep believing in God.

We’re ALL going through some tough times, but DON’T LOOSE HOPE AND FAITH IN GOD. He makes everything good and promises to grant us the “desires of our hearts” we just need to “have the faith of a mustard seed”.

Keep your head up Gail and to everyone else that is wishing for financial freedom just as I am.

The following quotes are not only found in Buddhism. It is also in the BIBLE. SEEK AND YOU SHALL FIND. KNOCK AND IT WILL BE OPENED> ASK AND YOU WILL BE GIVEN. I wont rule out any form of beliefs, religion or doctrine whatever a person practice or believe as this is a democratic country. A simple analogy is taking different flights going to same destination. As far as prayers is concern, it depends on how fervent it is, how it is badly needed and how the praying person deserves it. There is also the proper timing. Of course keep the faith and hope then charity can follow. For every monumental occurrence there is always a reason.God works with strange ways. There is always time for everyone to win. If we don’t get it this time we’ll have it next time. Just keep on entering and hope it will be one of us next time. I want to make this clear I only believe in one GOD.Pray heartily and fervently and your prayers will be granted.

OOOHHHH PCH,

That’s as far as my chant will go! I not sure about chanting a request over-n-over-n-over, BUT I will admit I DO THINK about my winning ALOT :) :)
In ’95, 6 months after I graduated, I went to our local Collage to register, and later that day, I was taking some friends home, and got into an accident. I was in a Coma for 3 1/2 months.
Um, my SSI got changed to SSDI, and cut by 3/4ths, after I got Married, so now all I get is 3$379 a months, and my husband works in Comstruction, and he brings in JUST enough money to cover our bills each month, but then adding ALL my medical bills that I’m still bringing in, I would LOVE, abosoultly LOVE to win this, because to pay my parents back, because they are being GREAT parents, who of course pay for my bills, but then as HARD as it is to earn monty these days, it’s hard on them as well, so they’ve started adding it up and we’re trying to pay it back, SO PLEASE could you help me by letting me win??
BUT I’ve noticed that all the winners I’ve seen are elderly, er older than me, and it looks like there pretty much setteled, nice homes, nice neighborhoods, and I live in a Trailor park, and yes before I was Married I DID buy from PCH pretty frequently, and now with money being SO tight I’m sorry I can’t buy from you anymore. :(
Another thing I would LOVE about winning this is it would take me off of my State’s tax, so they wouldn’t have to pay for me anymore, and I CAN SEE how much GOOD I could DO for others, so another thing I’m ASKING for help with!!
Thank you PCH,

Mrs. Misty L. Bechtol

PS
Yes, I know that your picking winners IS totally by chance, NOT done by looking at all your enterants and seeing who deserves it, so I guess GOOD LUCK TO US ALL :) :)
