Listen To Mother – Winning Advice From An Oscar Winner

Listen to Mother” is something many of us heard while growing up, and it can still be winning advice, even for us adults.

Did you catch the words of wisdom from Oscar winner Tom Hooper at the Academy Awards telecast?   He told of how, in 2007, his “mum” went to the reading of a then-unproduced play called The King’s Speech, then quickly phoned him to predict that she thought she had “found” his next film.  Sure enough, she had.  Tom followed her winning advice and — lo and behold — won the Best Director honors, thereby upholding the moral that one should “Listen to mother.”

As longtime head of the PCH Prize Patrol, I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve heard that sentiment expressed by prize winners of the Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes.  I’d hand the recipient a Big Check – worth anywhere from thousands to millions of dollars, and he or she would say: “You know my mother always entered your sweepstakes and advised me to do the same.  She figured: Somebody has got to win; why not me?  So I never gave up!  And now … [sob, sob].”

Sometimes prize winners tell me that their grandmothers entered too.  That’s not surprising since we launched our sweepstakes way back in 1967!  The purpose of the contest then was to draw public attention to our “unbeatable” magazine subscription values.  Forty-eight years later that purpose hasn’t changed – except nowadays we also offer a huge variety of quality merchandise deals, and our customers can shop online as well as by trusty mailed bulletins.

So listen to mother – or grandmother – or ME (I’m a grandfather):  ENTER the Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes.  And do it every chance you get.  Many of our prize winners have been persistent, sending in sweepstakes entries year after year because they knew every entry was a new chance to win prizes.  With our growing network of PCH websites and the many ways you can play and win, you can enter the sweepstakes online every day.  As a result, more and more of our winners are winning with online entries.

Follow the winning advice of real prize winners!  Go to pch.com and ENTER the PCH Sweepstakes.

Good luck!

Great Advice Dave,
And as you say, it is SO TRUE for a LOT of us PCH followers & entrants!!!
As I had just graduated from high school in 1967 & would help my Mom ALL the time entering your mail- ins..& she would say the same thing!!! “Someone has to win… why not us???”

After marriage & leaving home I patiently waited to receive one of those “occupant” letters for ME also.. & did!! & for many years entered , then moves & remarriage had me lose contact for a long while until one day out of the “BLUE” came again one of your mailings !!! It came right at a time that I was focused on something else.. but got me thinking of my Mom’s words again & started entering & ordering..again…

I am entering now thru the web , but also am looking forward to recieving your mailings again.. as they stopped as quick as they started, but LOVED the feeling of entering them thru the mail to remind me of those days with my Mom…

I pray that SOMEDAY I will cry those “HAPPY SOBS” for My Mom’s Word’s of Advice too!!!

Dear Mr Sayer,

If I HAD LISTENED to MY MOTHER I would NOT HAVE BEEN ENTERING or even buying from PCH.

My Mother used to say “PCH is just a gimmick, just trying to get you to buy magazines, don’t waste your time or your money. If you want a magazine then go to the grocery store and buy one there; besides that PCH CHARGES TOO MUCH ANYWAY.”

MOM WAS OH SO WRONG in this case !!
I DO BUY my MAGAZINES AT PCH ON-LINE, because

THE GROCERY STORE CHARGES FULL COVER PRICE, whereas PCH DISCOUNTS EVERY MAGAZINE SUBSCRIPTION I PURCHASE through them.

“OH MOTHER PLEASE LISTEN TO ME”. “WHY do I want to pay full price ($3.99 an issue) for READER’S DIGEST at the grocery store when I CAN GET A FULL YEAR of MONTHLY READER’s DIGEST PUBLICATIONS for just
$9.98 at PCH’s SHOPandWIN?”

I glad to know that some mother’s give out the best advice, but I do have to say that sometimes even Mother’s CAN BE WRONG.

“I remember when . .” that Mr. Ed McMahan used to be the spokesperson of PCH!! I believe my mom used to enter in private behind closed doors, because I used to always find “remnants” of opened PCH letters and see magazines that “just appeared” regularly. She wasn’t someone who persisted at it, though! Like me!! Faithfully I do everyday!! It’s a part of my daily routine!

Take care and God bless everyone! Thanks especially to all of the PCH team!!

P.S.: In my early working career, I once even worked for a company in my hometown that printed EVERYTHING for mailing. (Even for the White House!) I used to always see endless streams of Publishers’ Clearing House mailings!! It planted the “must do” phrase in my head then!!

    Hello Nancy,

Ed McMahon never worked for Publishers Clearing House. In fact, he worked for one of our competitors American Family Publishers.

Hi Vickie,
Maybe your Mom was not a magazine person, as my hubby is not one either…

I had to promise him no more magazines in the house a long time ago.. as I had them piled high just saving them all for that ONE SPECIAL RECIPE in all of them after I had read all the articles…

I do sneak in one ever now & then though for the Special Olympics… as that is a cause that is CLOSE to our hearts..

Again Good Luck in your upcoming surgery & also now a SMOOTH move to your new home!!

I have NOT been on PCH games latley as too much going on & no time to sit & play.. but when I am there I have a smiley face avatar… my on-line name is havapoomom..

I LOVE to play FIREFLY although I am not that good at it (( YET!!!!))..

My favoritwe is Carniball.. as I used to play that at Salem Willows in Ma. when I was a child… I LOVED IT THEN & LOVE IT NOW…

I also play if my memory recalls at the moment ( FIND IT) although I do not think that is the name of it. right now… but it is a GREAT game to help with your memory!!!…
I guess I better get playing that one more often!!!!

My desire to Win!!! Since at this time there is no words to simply express I can certainly say that speaking from the depth’s of my Soul & Heart I can Express My Desire by letting Pch & Everyone know that Yes my life, my families life, neighbor’s life would definitly change, as everyone well knows that a large amount of money does this to a person. Where am I Really Going With This: This is not just about Me, there are so many Charities out there that I Know Oh so Well, because Lord knows they’ve helped me many of times going to College & raising 2 boys alone, There are Organizations that are in need of Help; EX: Red Cross, Relief Efforts All over this World in need of Help WOW Would it Ever be a Blessing to know that I could be a part of Helping Other’s. I watched the Secret Millionaire just the other night, Not only did I cry of Joy(my husband & me love tear jerking movies/show’s we watch them all the time), but the Whole while watching the show In my Mind (an tears lol..) Couldn’t help Silently in my mind Think of just someway I could Possibly be “The Silent Millionaire”, & copy-cat her show kinda, but yet not make it Public so Nobody would know who the Silent Millionaire Is. Kinda like what I read about your sweepstake sign(that was humbling), just adorable he never knows what to expect, & still worries about getting sat on by You Know Who??? lol….! Japan has been on my mind from the very day of the disaster, God it would be so Awesome to beable to Help atleast Financially since my health has a few issue that need attending first(a mild blocked left Carotid artery) Be able to afford my Fibromagia Medication Lyrica so that my body can do more for Everyone!!! My 26yoa son smoked Meth for the past 12/13 years he’s been Clean & Sober since we flew him out here to GA October 3rd-6month’s now & he just enrolled at Gwinnett Technical College here in GA Yes he struggles w/urges but said Mom if I’m going to Continue to Run the Streets This time I want to Run them as an EMT so that I can help others. I still cry in Happiness for his career desire to be an EMT, now the HOPE SCHOLARSHIP requires a 3.7GPA to qualify so to speak, & my son having run the streets of stockton, Ca for so long could never qualify for Hope Scholarship- I would help him & others just like him God Willing…As for my 21yoa son he’s a Federal Agent as is Scheduled & Leaving for IRAQ August 11th. Didn’t mean to write a Diary, sorry!! I’m 46yoa & my husband is 60yoa it would be Wonderful if he could Retire as a Currently employed Heavy Equipment Operator, & Instructor SO There’d be a Job Position Available for an individual out of work right now like so many are, it’s just so Sad! Just in Advance Thank You for this Opportunity to Share With You All!!!!Love, rina

I am recovering from a brain surgery I had in January, I couldn’t work for couple of years and living with sister with my 2 girls. My mom told me that on PCH would be a great big change to your future and that’s what I have been doing.I’m ready to be independent to give my girls a place to call home but with PCH I can have that dream.
