Proof of Identity Not Needed When Real Prize Patrol Visits

When the Publishers Clearing House Prize Patrol arrives at a winner’s door, folks don’t ask us for proof of identity.

Proof of Identity Required

Proof of identity has been a hot topic in the news lately with calls from various constituencies to produce birth certificates, photographs or other documentation to verify identities.  I’m not going to get into that discussion.

But I will tell you this: when the Publishers Clearing House Prize Patrol arrives at a winner’s door, folks don’t ask us for proof of identity.   The winner says “Wow!  It’s you!  C’mon in!” When we board a plane, flight attendants don’t ask us for government-issued ID  — the way the airport security personnel must; they just give us a huge welcome – the same way passengers do when they see us in our Prize Patrol blazers and ask “Is that big package you’re carrying for me?!?!”

I suppose the favorable reception is a result of our faces and Prize Patrol van having been featured on TV and in our mailings for decades.  People recognize us when they see us in person.  Naturally, we are glad that Publishers Clearing House is such a well-known and trusted brand.

Unfortunately, there are some scam operators out there who think that a blind phone call will generate the same kind of reception.   We urge you to beware of scams posing as legitimate sweepstakes.  Scammers may phone you or email you or send you a letter with imitation checks ‘claiming’ to be from Publishers Clearing House.  Using a variety of false promises, the scammers may ask you to send money in order to claim a non-existent prize.  If you receive such a contact, DO NOT send or wire money!  At Publishers Clearing House the winning is always FREE, and it is never necessary to pay any money to enter or win our famous PCH Sweepstakes!

Just know that you can enter the Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes with confidence — by mail or through our growing network of online properties – all reachable through pch.com.

If we arrive at your door, you can ask us for proof of identity – and we will provide it; but if, amid the excitement, that slips your mind, don’t worry: the Big Check will be yours – and it will be FREE!
