PCH on Giveaway Day: A Behind-The-Scenes Look!

As I walked through the doors at Publishers Clearing House there was a buzz of excitement in the air. I glanced at my phone’s calendar and then it hit me – Today’s the day!

The Prize Patrol is out on the road, RIGHT NOW, in hot pursuit of our August 31st SuperPrize Event Winner! On the way to my desk, people were buzzing about; who would the lucky winner be? Where was he or she from? What would the winner use the money for?

The halls were filled with commotion and wonderment. I ran into a member of our Contest Department, Matt Kelsoly, and pleaded with him to tell me where the winner was from. “I’m sorry, but we can’t reveal any information regarding the winner, “said Matt. “We want to make sure the lucky winner is as surprised as can be!”

I couldn’t wait to get to my office and let the greatest fans in the world know that Dave Sayer, Danielle Lam and Todd Sloane are on their way RIGHT NOW to change someone’s life. Heck, as you’re reading this, even YOU could hear a knock and open your door to champagne, flowers, balloons and the “Big Check.”

Did you know EVEN YOU could keep in touch with the Prize Patrol? If you “like” our PCH Fan Page on Facebook, you can get hints about where they are as they make their way to the winner’s home. Sometimes they’ll report what the weather’s like or post fun facts about the state. Just follow the clues and who knows, maybe Todd, Danielle and Dave will be describing what the weather’s like around your home! We also asked our fans to vote on when they’d like the Prize Patrol to post a video update and the overwhelming response was when they arrive at the airport. Make sure you check our Fan page to see that video!

Have you ever dreamt of speaking to the Prize Patrol? Well, guess what?…For the first time ever in Publishers Clearing House history, the Prize Patrol will be answering any questions you may have on our PCH Fan Page. PLUS you can even see their responses live on video!

Don’t miss out on the excitement! Join in on the fun as we wait and see who our August 31st SuperPrize® Event winner is!

Thanks,

Matt S.

I’m stuck as well. I always get the message stating someone in your area with your Initials will definitely win. I always brush it off because I never recieve anything stating I won anything from PCH. Thats why I always say this is so fake. I do not get the purpose of seeing that message if im not even the person who will get any prize. Then I read the response from PCH customer service stating that yes if you do not recieve a letter via UPS then you will not win.. So why do ya’ll send us these messages if we aren’t the ones to get anything?

I’m kind of disappointed in pch because on one of my entries it specifically stated that there was a winner in the 44102 area with the initials the same as mine I prayed every night to even win $500.00 or anything I havn’t heard anything yet I’ll just continue to pray that I am that lucky winner in my zip code.

        Hi Clare,

The “initials” contest (Giveaway # 1403) is separate from our “local awards” of $1,000 each that occurred yesterday (Giveaway # 1907).

In our “initials contest”, winners with all possible combination of initials (676 total winners) will be selected to win a prize of $100.00 each. This person can be from anywhere in United States, Puerto Rico and Canada. This giveaway ends on 02/29/12.

For our “local awards” contest, 210 Winners of the local awards are selected from local TV viewing areas throughout the United States and will win a prize of $1000.00 each. Only one winner will be selected from each TV viewing area. This is the prize that is guaranteed to be in your area.

        Hope this helps!

        Regards,

Thanks Rebecca for this clarification ( FINALLY))) !!!!

It has always been stated so vaguely before when it has been asked numerious times before a BIG win!!!!!

Next time I will know better in advance!!!

It shows me moreso how VERY high the odds are that you will ever EVEN get on “THAT SHORT LIST” to be EVEN CONSIDERED for the BIG ONE… as only maybe 3 or 4 from each diferent viewing areas would be picked for the short list for each state, then from that the big winner..

But I will keep entering , hopeing & praying..

      Congrats to today’s winner!!!!

      Maureen

        Maureen Sousa said...

I stand to correct my blog post as I have figured out that your odss are very SLIM at getting on anything!!!

only 3 or 4 people from each viewing area that send in entries might get picked for the 211 short list ( think about it!!!! there are 52 states in this nation… so 3 or 4 from each state!!!(( how many people from each state enter???)))))
so for ALL the entries that are being sent in only 3 or 4 from each state will get picked to see if the winning # is on them) if not 210 people get 1,000.00 & one person gets 1 million… you only get the BIG one if the # was on one of them!!

The odds are very bad if you are a gambler, which I am not.( Thanks to God & my own common sense not to gamble with money!!). so I will continue to enter & hope & pray for the next time to be on that SHORT LIST!!!!

Congrates again to the winner.. as you have beaten a GREAT odd to get what you have gotten today!!!!!

    Hi Chelsea,

We do not know if all 211 winners have received their letters yet, as the time it takes to deliver the letters will depend on their location. We cannot say what time the Prize Patrol will arrive at the winners home, as that too depends on the location of the winner.

Plan a big party for my oldest son’s 4th birthday and my husbands birthday!! Get ready for the holidays, donate to charites that are near and dear to my family, help out communities and family of course and save up for a rainy day!!

Every year before, I’ve cleaned my home in anticipation of the prize patrol’s arrival at my home, made sure the never ending weeds (it’s a problem where I live) were pulled in front of the house. I also made sure the windows were washed etc… Well, this year, I’ve adopted a new policy. I’m not killing myself. The place can look a little less than clean, and then it will be my luck they’ll show up and see my dirty house, and so will the whole nation on TV.
What to do, what to do, clean or not clean?
I know what I’ll do, I’ll keep hoping they come to my house and if they do, I’ll hire someone to pull my weeds (just this once) and clean my house (just this once).
Hahahaha.
Good Luck to all of us who enter.

So the door bell ranged and I freaked out and ran to do the door.. just for a package, such a let down. Well, it seems the winner isn’t in New York.

Maybe NEXT time PCH should explain better the procedures for winning this big prize.

As Rebecca said …if you did not get a UPS letter, for the SHORT LIST then you are not in the running for the BIG ONE..

I don’t know if that is the case for smaller prizes but it certainly seems the norm for ALL the big ones… ( Karen Anderson, Stephanie G, Natalie B. & who knows who else as these are the only ones to comment so far. or I have seen their videos)

But if they do not(receive this letter)… I will NOT be waiting around( just like many others) ( just thinking) they are coming to my house REGADLESS that I have received a letter stateing that I am one of the SHORT LIST ENTRIES to MAYBE win the big one, but have at least won 1,000.00..

Not that I will NOT keep entering, but I think today a lot of folks were again dissapointed & led on to think they may be coming to their homes when in reality they knew(PCH) all along it would be one of the 211 SHORT LIST people..

Maybe a NEW way of marketing the BIG prize will keep a lot of folks entering & on your sites for your marketing #’s.

In today’s economic conditions you DO NOT want to show people false hope…be transparent as this is what we are ALL looking for in today’s society & government etc. As Rebecca told people today on the blog…
That was HONEST & SINCERE & did not give people a feeling of false HOPE…although some DID get frustrated after hearing it..

As I said before, I will keep entering as I did with my Mom since way back when in the hopes that someday I will get on that SHORT LIST to be maybe considered a big winner..(although I did NEVER know of the SHORT LIST until recently)
But I will NEVER stay home waiting for you on a given day IF I HAVE NOT RECEIVED one of those letters in advance….

Just my thoughts on the matter..

P.S. I hope this is not toO negative to post!!

Maureen

P>P>S> congrats again to Larry Brown I would love TO KNOW IF HE GOT A LETTER!!!!!! oNLY JUST TO REBUTT WHAT I HAVE JUST SAID…

Yesterday’s draw was an “Early Look” draw. The $5,000 A Week For Life was the primary prize promoted for the giveaway and the $1 Million was the secondary prize. In the case of yesterday’s draw, the $1 Million prize was awarded as a second chance drawing.

During the course of an ongoing SuperPrize Giveaway, PCH will conduct “Special Early Look” drawings to see if there is a winner of that Giveaway. If there is no matching winning number for a Special Early Look Event, the primary prize amount promoted for the Event will not be awarded; however, PCH may elect to award a secondary prize for the Event in a second chance drawing. If a SuperPrize is awarded as part of a Special Early Look Event, PCH will replenish the prize to allow the Giveaway to continue.

    Hope this helps!

    Regards,
    Rebecca @ PCH

WITH THE BIG HUGE AMOUNTS.. BUT WHO WANTS THAT FOR REMEMBRANCE?)THIS IS NOT A MONEY ORDER.. IT IS A COLLECTIVE TO KEEP FOREVER!!!

THE LOGO IS A CIRCLE NOW & JUST DOES NOT LOOK AS OFFICIAL LOOKING AS THE PREVIOUS ONE…

YOU COULD MAKE OUT THE WHOLE ENVELOPE LOGO ON THE OLDER CHECKS.. NOW IT JUST LOOKS LIKE A GREEN CIRCLE..I COULD NOT REALLY SEE THE LOGO…THE CIRCLE CAUGHT MY EYE..MORE THAN THE LOGO.

I think its the false hope that kept them from believing they will ever had the chance! If people being told good news all the time theough an email but then it all seem to good to be true? …..they get excited and keep going but at the ends they didn’t win and some body else did ! why does all the bulletins always do that ! I even got one that said ” If you use one of these links now ….you will be the winner” that is an example of false hope to me

So, am I to understand that someone somewhere could have submitted an entry with the winning number, and NOT won, simply because they were not selected for a ‘short-list’ of 211 people? And, that being the case, they might NEVER win ANYTHING? This seems rather arbitrary to me. And just because the contest continues until it’s official end-date in February, doesn’t mean anyone’s odds go up. If it is still done the same way, there may never be a winner for the promoted top prize. What an ingeneous way to hazard avoiding that particular payout.

No it is not true. If your name has not been randomly selected from all eligible entries for local prize award, you are out of the Super prize drawing even if you have the winning Super prize number.
Because the prize number was only searched from entries which got into “short list” , is that correct?

        PCH Customer Service said...

        Hi Oksana,

All entries have the same chance of winning the SuperPrize, just as all entries have the same chance of being selected for the “short list”. The winners on the “short list” were chosen randomly from among all eligible entries, so the winner of the SuperPrize was also chosen from among all eligible entries.

        Hope this helps!

Especially now since Irene knocked out the power, water and food for 4 days and counting. We could use a miracle. The whole east coast Hope you guys are alright up there!!! Just want to wish everyone the best of luck in the next event! Someone has to win it and I hope it’s me, soon! I just can’t afford the 7 dollar postage fees for to much longer! lol Good luck in the next one! P.s. Hello PCH STAFF In regards to the 5k they didn’t find one? What does that exactly mean? The number wasn’t returned in time or there was never a matching number?? Sorry I am still a bit confused!

Why don’t you do it that way.also??.. as I could not afford 7 dollars postage either!!!!

Hope your town does not suffer long from the effects of Irene..I know some here in the east coast area that STILL have no power.. My prayers are with you & all of them.. we were lucky but just west of us was not..

My husband and I both have full time jobs now so i no longer have those worries… But there are still many I know who do.

Hello Addison,

I appreciate your response. You know most of us probably only breezed through the official rules which prompted me to look at them again and now I do have one more question.

for this…
A limit of one online entry per day is allowed per individual and per e-mail address for each separate online promotion unless otherwise specified. Subsequent entries determined to be submitted from the same email address or from the same individual using multiple email addresses in violation of this rule will be declared ineligible.

my question…
when it say declared ineligible does that mean all is declared ineligible or just the extra entries ineligible?

Thank you, K. Dixon

I dont understand how there could “not be a winner” for the $5,000 a week when ALL these ppl including myself entered repeatedly. I mean I know I read somewhere on paperwork sent to me that in order for your “number” to be valid you have to send it back with the appropriate attached seals. If everyone has to do that, how could there not be a winner? This continues to puzzle me.

Hello PCH Cust Svc. I would like to see if I now understand the process, now I have read all postings here:

We are sent the emails to win $5k (or $7) week for life – within the same emails are different options (2nd chance, $100, etc).

In this case no one returned the # for the $5/$7 wk for life. And this will still be eligible until 2/29/12 which means now – 2012 in early drawings. Is there a set time it will became open to enter again? Like 6 months, etc. Bc it was so odd I received an offer to enter even yesterday. It was from PCH for sure.

To cont.. so then the 211 certified letters are sent out. Larry Brown (btw congrats Larry) was one of those sent the 211?

Or is 211 letters not Larry – Larry was separate?

Finally, you mention if you were a winner of $10k or more it is delivered in person. For yesterday only…or this could still be happening say today for instance once all the 211 letters are received?

Perhaps a step by step answer here would “silence” all of us posters who although we have read all the fine print, rules, etc…just don’t quite get the big picture/steps/ whats next…

Thanks for reading, and for responding!

Have a great day
Kimmie

Is there a set time it will became open to enter again? (the #1400 $5k wk-exp 2/29/12) Like 6 months, etc?

Finally, you mention if you were a winner of $10k or more it is delivered in person. For yesterday only…or this could still be happening say today? iow- will there be any more prize patrol, deliveries to winners or Larry it for now?

Perhaps a step by step answer here would “silence” all of us posters..

      Thanks so much again

But some of u are giving them a hard time and asking the same question afterthey have already answered it two post before that. Instead of trying to get them to break it down to a step by step way u can understand it. Go read about the sweepstakes. I mean no affense before i would enter any sweepstakes i read everything about them and make sure i understand everything to my knowledge before i enter. Just a word of advice. And im sure they would love to tell everyone of u that but they have a job they would like to keep. And oh one more thing, u all domt have to be so hostile just bc u didnt win the “early look” from give away# 1400. Be thanksful u even got a change at one of these and congradulate and move on to the next one. They have plenty. Oh and ps to those on the old comment, its a random draw, all ages enter and all ages have the same chang’s of winning. If u looked at the winning moment’s and seen some that are working with pch now u would realize that. So congrats to larry and his family to everyone else, keep trying and stop making it out to be something its not. Have a good day to all of u. Take care

I make more money and waste less time at the poker table, but it’s free to enter here, so–hey, why not?

But I am curious about this: what happens if someone gets a big-payout prize-patrol visit, but they happen to be away on vacation, or for some other reason not at the address on their entry? Maybe they moved to another home, or are working a double shift, or for any other reason, they may not be there. Can they then be denied that prize? If pch keeps looking for them, how long do they have to be located before they are declared no longer eligible? And what methods would be used in an attempt to find them?

Our Prize Patrol makes every effort to locate our winners. We haven’t had a situation in over 30 years of awarding prizes where we could not locate our winners. We have had winners who live in big cities, small towns, trailer parks, high rise apartments and even the Alaskan tundra and the Prize Patrol has always located the winner.
