Valentine’s Day is definitely the luckiest day on the calendar for me. Not that I’ve always been lucky in love. In fact, quite the opposite! But on Valentine’s Day 2004, I became a giant jackpot winner for life. That’s the day I married my best friend and the coolest guy I have ever known. But it’s not just the getting hitched part that was lucky!
Valentine’s Day, as we all well know, is in February. And we live in New York. So planning a wedding in the dead of winter in the Northeast is a pretty risky gamble to say the least, as you can well imagine. My mother was totally freaked out. “There will be a blizzard! The Canadian relatives will never make it! We’ll all freeze to death!
I was pretty sure that even if the temp hit zero we’d all survive–especially the Canadians! And I had faith somehow that it wouldn’t snow. But as we got closer to the big day, daily temperatures were hitting record lows. Twenty degrees one day, fifteen the next. The day before the wedding, it was a frigid ten degrees–and that was the HIGH! But I somehow knew it would be okay. I already felt pretty lucky that Valentine’s Day had fallen on a Saturday this year, and I was sure that luck would carry us. And, as LUCK had it, I was right. Do you know it soared all the way up to fifty-five degrees that Valentine’s Day?! And not a snowflake in sight. And all Canadians were present and accounted for!
My husband and I were also lucky enough to get married in New York City’s world famous St. Patrick’s Cathedral. I have to say, nothing has ever made me feel more like a million bucks like gliding down that enormous aisle in my gown, my new husband on my arm, and throngs of people crowding the sidewalk as we exited the cathedral, wanting to get a look at the “celebrities” (LOL!) able to wed in such a grand way on such a romantic day… And now you know why Valentine’s Day is my luckiest day of the year!
Much LOVE and LUCK to you and yours this Valentine’s Day!
