On Danielle’s Blog, she announced that the Prize Patrol would be on the road the next day to award someone with $10,000.

Is that winner chosen from the short list of 210?

Hi,

I send in my Official Sweepstake Letter on time. So, I don’t understand why I am not the winner when my giveaway number for the $1,000,000 a year for life is 1830. How can it expire when my information was sent in before the expiration day of 14th of February.

Please Respond
Thank you

    Hi Lorna,

The letter you sent back was for a chance to win. 1830 is the number of the Giveaway, not the winning number. Everyone’s entries were marked with the number 1830. Your entry did not expire, but it was not the entry chosen randomly to win.

I get 2 types of e-mails from PCH. On one, it usually shows the bar and says entry confirmed. Then , it goes to the list of products. On this other e-mail at the end its says entry confirmed, but it has a count down on the bar. Then it goes straight to one product or website. It that a scam? Or do you have to different endings to the sweepstakes?

IF I was to ever win, how do you contact the winner? I work and live on a farm, so my address is shared by 4 different houses here: the BIG house and three smaller cottages, one of which is mine. I am often off premises running errands. How would you find me to give me the notice? I’m listed in the phone book, but not always home. My mail goes to the big house, but I sometimes don’t see it for several days. These concerns have me questioning whether to even enter any more contests.

[REPLY TO THIS POST]
    Victoria At PCH said...

    Hi Martha,

If you were the winner of a prize worth $10,000.00 or more, the Prize Patrol would surprise you in person with your prize. If the winner is not home, they either wait for the winner to return or ask around to see if they can get any leads as to where they might find the winner. If you were the winner of a prize worth $10,000.00 or less, you would be notified by certified mail or email. You typically have 30 days or more to respond to these contacts.

I’d like to share a funny story from yesterday that I titled “Near Millionaire Experience.” I was at work hoping that the Prize Patrol would find me here. Shortly before 3:00 pm I left my desk for a quick restroom break. I returned a few minutes later to find that everyone in my department (about a dozen co-workers) had suddenly disappeared. Since I was in a PCH state of mind, my heart instantly began racing. My thoughts were running wild for the next few minutes. Has everyone been called downstairs to surprise me along with the Prize Patrol. It was only a few short minutes but I believe I truly had a “Near Millionaire Experience.” I soon realized this was not to be my big day – it is the day my company was having a special Retirement Celebration. How could I have been so out of it all day and not remember this wonderful milestone being celebrated today. I guess the next best thing to being the “Big Winner” is having a gigantic piece of chocolate cake. Oh well, maybe next time….

Hello, I have a question for whome this may concern. I have been filling out entries on roboform, and lowercase letters does this disqualify the entry. Do i have to fill it out every time and have capital letters. Ive been doing research and it said in most cases for sweepstake online entries it needs to be filled out evertime and in caps. So have i been doing it wrong this whole time?

Hey PCH
All of this is so confusing because as of yesterday we thought that someone won 1mill for life. Now today your giving a email to go to to see about the early look when the winning # not return. Why couldn’t no one say that the winning number wasn’t turn in.I don’t get how yall running the sweepstake. The way you send eamil is like if you don’t you going to lose, when all the time a machine pick the winner not you all.I still can’t get my head of that because of the way you all word the email the mailer. Now instead of telling us that no one won the million for life after someone asked you give them a email to look up and read.Is that how you inform us wow that’s thoughtful.it make me wonder was anybody really ever gone to win that million for life. That didn’t get annouced as many people playing this it’s hard to beleive that the winning # wasn’t return wow.Now what next

2 questions for Victoria-Thank you in advance! If the rules state you can only enter once per day; can you enter at pch.com and enter from an email if you received one that day as well? What does it mean if the winning number was not returned then the second prize will be presented as with the current super prize winner Jason Clark, how are the numbers issued that should be returned? Thanks

[REPLY TO THIS POST]
    Victoria At PCH said...

    Hi S.

You can enter once per day per promotion. That means that you can enter from each email you receive as well as on http://www.pch.com, as well as on any of our other properties that offer sweepstakes entries. They will not be considered duplicates unless you enter from the same website, link, or email twice in one day.

When the winning number was not returned, it means that the number we drew randomly did not match the number that the prize has been assigned. Each mail-in entry is given a number before it is mailed out. Each online entry is assigned a number after it has been submitted. Simply by submitting an entry, you are returning your number.

    I hope this helps!

pch makes $700 million per year. With that said…Lets begin a discussion, shall we. Lets talk about cookies. Cookies are mostly harmless except for third-party cookies. These cookies are not made by the website itself, but by banner advertising companies. While alot of sites are *FREE, companies have to make a *PROFIT somehow, so they *SELL their space to advertisers. These ads which are personalized to your likes can often freeze your computer or cause annoyance. These third-party cookies are so dangerous because they take the same information as regular cookies do, such as browsing habits and frequently visited websites, but then they sell the information to *other companies. Web Profiling means: *TRACKING. In my opinion: PCH add “tracking cookies” to a users browser. Security Expert: Bruce Schneir says: “Privacy protects us from abuses by those in power, even if we’re doing nothing wrong at the time of surveillance”. Because a user usually deletes cookies once per month- United Virtualities has built a substitute: PIE(Persistant Identification Element). PIE’s unlike cookies cannot be easily deleted or detected & can reinstate any deleted cookie. Ever cookies: Ever cookies are java script -base applications which produce cookies in a web browser that actively “RESIST” deletion by redundantly copying themselves in diffrent forms on the users machine. Akamai is used by PCH. http://www.akamai.com or http://www.akamai.net Summary: PCH gives third-parties the “ability” to link your internet activities to “personally identifiable information”(P.I.I.) of you, the internet user. This is why PCH is considered: *TARGET MARKETING and for so many other reasons. I am not going to sit/stand here and ALLOW PCH to make a profit off of myself w/out ever winning=EVER. In some angles, it is a scam but in other angles it’s just good old fashion target marketing. I will not allow the advantage to be taken control of, as in myself. Good Luck on never winning a dime !!!

    Hi Gregory,

Thanks for your interest in Publishers Clearing House and our information collection practices. The use of “cookies” is an industry standard and users will find them on almost every commercial web site. Cookies enable web sites to recognize their visitors and personalize the viewing experience of their customers. If you prefer, you can decline the placement of a cookie on your hard drive by using the appropriate feature(s) of your web browser software to delete or prevent cookies. Please note, however, that certain areas on the site will not function properly if you chose not to accept cookies.

Your note references “Targeted Marketing”. Targeted advertising (also known as Behavioral Advertising) is used on commercial web sites to collect an individual’s web browsing behavior such as the pages they have visited or the searches they have made. This information is used to select which advertisements would be most relevant to individuals. For example, if you have shown a preference for cooking while visiting pch.com, you may be served an advertisement from pch.com for cooking related products when you visit a site other than pch.com. The information collected is only linked to an anonymous cookie ID; it does not include any information that could be linked back to a particular person, such as their name, address or credit card number. If you would like to opt out of targeted advertising from pch.com you may easily do so through the Ad Choice mechanisim on our sites. Please note that this will opt you out of targeted ads from pch.com and any other participating advertisers. If you opt out, you will continue to receive online advertising from Publishers Clearing House; however, these ads may not be as relevant to you.

We’re proud of the pioneering work we did with TRUSTe – and the DMA – as part of the pilot effort to provide consumers the easy Ad Choice opt-out mechanism. Publishers Clearing House was one of the original beta tests of this service and the Ad Choice program has now received positive recognition from the the FTC in their December 2010 Privacy Report and most recently in the White House Privacy report. Full information on all of our collection and privacy practices can be found at privacy.pch.com.
