The “Good Luck” Fountain

We have a new “good luck” fountain here at Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes Headquarters, the place where good fortune smiles on lucky winners every day!

As part of the PCH building update and renovation project, our crackerjack Facilities Department installed a beautiful fountain in the round pond at what’s fondly known as “Winners Circle.”  Both decorative and functional, this sparkling spray greets PCHers and visitors in a refreshing way.  When I pass it on the way to work every morning I’m “mist-ified” by thoughts of all the good luck rituals associated with fountains and “flooded” with fond memories of other magnificent ones I’ve seen in my travels.

Ever since childhood, I’ve been told you can wish on a fountain and throw in a coin for good luck.  I’ve done it myself more than a few times and doled out countless pennies for my daughters to continue the tradition.

Whether sleek or ornate, large or small, a fountain is a focal point in the landscape and a seemingly magical gathering place to make dreams come true and grant wishes, or at the very least amuse onlookers.  My two favorite fountains – other than our new PCH “good luck” fountain, of course! – are La Fontaine des Quatre Dauphins (Fountain of the Four Dolphins) in Aix-en-Provence, France and La Fontana di Trevi (Fountain of Trevi) in Rome, Italy.  You can search online at PCH Search and Win to see images of these historic watery landmarks.  I spent a semester studying in Aix-en-Provence during junior year of college and daily walked past the four dolphins swimming atop swirling stone waves.  Oui, oui, I tossed in a few francs for good luck, too.  The impressive Trevi monument was my “must-go-to” stop every evening after dinner out while on a dream vacation in Rome with my husband a number of years ago.  Legend has it visitors to Trevi Fountain can wish for good fortune or help for someone in need.  Yep, you guessed it – some lire took the plunge from my wallet to that Italian wishing well.

What about YOU?  Have you ever made a wish while tossing coins in a fountain?  Do you have a favorite fountain?  Have you wished to become a lucky winner in the Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes?  Do you feel like one of our PCH Facebook SuperFans, Bunne, who recently told us: “Casting all my pennies in this [PCH] fountain… hopefully coming up with PCH-Dollars!!! Boy do I wish!!!!”

Here’s to hoping the new addition to the PCH pond will “pour out” good luck to you!
