Check Out This Check-Out Story

I was finishing shopping at our local supermarket the other day, and as the check-out lady started scanning my items she looked up and exclaimed “My gosh!  You know who you look like?”

I said “No. Who?” – expecting her to mention my twin brother who actually lives in the same town and shops in the same market.

She shook her head.  “You look just like Dave Sayer – you know, from Publishers Clearing House.”

Her response startled me because I am rarely recognized unless I’m in my Prize Patrol blazer carrying roses, balloons and a Big Check worth thousands, even millions of dollars.

“Well, yes, I am Dave Sayer.”  I showed her my driver’s license to prove it.

Her mouth fell open.  “I knew it!” she cried. “I see your picture all the time!  Online!  I enter every day!”

“You are so smart” I replied. “Most winners I surprise play our sweepstakes all the time too.  And wow!  Just think – if you win I won’t have to go far from home!”

She was thrilled: first — because standing right there in-person was a real Prize Patrol’er she’d seen online and on TV; and second — for all the encouragement I gave her.

There are two morals to this story: (1) The Prize Patrol is real; there’s absolutely nothing fake or staged in our TV commercials.  And (2)  You should enter the PCH Sweepstakes every chance you get – which is every day at pch.com, Search & Win, PCH Games and more.

I wish YOU – and also the smart lady at the check-out counter – the very best of luck.   I’m looking forward to our next Big Check delivery – wherever it is, near or far.

Dave Sayer
PCH Prize Patrol Ambassador
