Do You Remember Your First Paycheck?

I want you all to take a walk down memory lane today and see if you can recall your very first paycheck. Can you remember your first job, and how it felt to get that first check with your name on it, money YOU earned, money that opened up a whole new world of possibilities for you? Maybe it gave you your first taste of independence … or helped you to save for that first big purchase … allowed you to treat yourself to something you had your eye on for what seemed like forever … made you feel on top of the world?

What I remember about my first paycheck is the initial shock I felt when I saw how much tax was taken out!  I worked nights as a sales girl at a department store in town. That first paycheck was for $35. I remember feeling flush with cash, and it was burning a hole in my pocket. I then proceeded to spend it all in the record department in the same store!

I decided to ask around the office to see what everyone else remembers.

Russell S. told me: “We didn’t have a lot of money when I was growing up, so I knew a generous allowance wasn’t coming my way every week. And chores were expected, not rewarded. The first real paycheck I remember getting was as a lifeguard at the local Y. At this time, minimum wage was $3.35 per hour; but I didn’t care! I liked what I was doing, it made me feel independent, and it was the realization of a goal. I wanted to be a lifeguard so I set out to do it, and ended up getting paid for it.”

Way to go Russell. Most of us hope to be able to get paid for what we love to do the most.

Victoria P. remembers: “My very first paycheck was back when I was 14 years old working as a cashier at my uncle’s deli in my hometown. It wasn’t much (maybe $40-$50) but as a teenager being handed that white envelope at the end of my shift on a Friday felt really amazing. My first real taste of financial independence.”

Not only was Victoria’s first job memorable, it was also where she met her future husband! That job sure has been paying off ever since!

Debbie K. shares this: When I was in college, I was an intern at a children’s cable television program called Pinwheel. I have always wanted to write ever since I was a little girl, and I kept submitting scripts for show segments until one day, one of my scripts was accepted and shot in the TV studio, and I received $40. How did I feel? I felt great! I felt that my ideas were actually worth something, and I felt like a professional for the first time!

Sounds like the job and the paycheck were totally rewarding for you Debbie!

MaryBeth H. recalls:  “When I was 16, I had a summer job proofreading bank ledgers for Chase Manhattan Bank at their downtown NYC office. It was a thrill to work in “the big city” and an even bigger one seeing my name on my first paycheck.”

You must have felt like you were “gonna make it after all” MaryBeth!

That was fun, but now I want you to imagine what it would be like to be on the receiving end of $1,000.00 a day … FOR LIFE! It could happen for you as the winner of our Special Early Look Prize Event on October 13th. That’s right, this incredible prize would pay out a $1,000.00 check day after day after day for the rest of the winner’s life!

Now that would be one heck of a check that you would definitely look forward to! And that daily paycheck would add up fast, too! You could finally get rid of that pile of bills in a flash … finally buy the home of your dreams … help family members … I’m sure you don’t need me to spell it out for you. But I can and will remind you to enter as often as you can to help turn it all into a reality.

But wait, before you go, please let us know in the comments section below all about YOUR first paycheck so we can all compare notes!
