PCH Supports Senate Hearings on Jamaican Lottery & Sweepstakes Fraud

Publishers Clearing House (PCH) supports Senate effort to stop Jamaican lottery and Sweepstakes Scams.

We have previously warned you about the rise in lottery and sweepstakes scams originating from Jamaica.  This growing problem is now the subject of an important Hearing by the Senate Special Committee on Aging  to be held on Wednesday, March 13^th. We fully support this effort to find ways to better educate consumers and target the scammers who are behind these nasty scams.

The Jamaican lottery and sweepstakes scams all follow the same basic pattern  – consumers  are  told that all they have to do to collect a prize is send or wire money to claim the bogus prize.  DON’T FALL FOR THIS!  Anyone asking for payment of any type in order to claim a sweepstakes or lottery prize is a SCAMMER! At Publishers Clearing House, if you have won, we never ask for money to claim a prize award, and our ‘no purchase necessary’ message is prominently displayed in all of our promotional material.

Publishers Clearing House continues to actively work with law enforcement and consumer protection officials on this issue, sharing information gathered and tracked in our anti-scam database.  We regularly provide such data to law enforcement officials including the Postal Inspection Service, Office of Homeland Security, FBI and the US Attorney’s Office.  We are just one of a handful of private companies that contributes anti-scam data directly to the Federal Trade Commission’s Consumer Sentinel Database network. This secure online database of consumer complaints is available to law enforcement around the country and throughout the world.

You can learn more about these Jamaican lottery and sweepstakes scams at our PCH Sweepstakes Learning Center. In the meantime, here are some basic tips to protect you from these Jamaican based lottery and sweepstakes scams:

• Beware of any unsolicited calls that may come from the Jamaican area code of 876 and includes an offer that sounds too good to be true. Hang up the phone!
• If you are asked to send or wire money or provide a prepaid Green Dot MoneyPak card for any reason whatsoever to claim a prize — DONT!  It is a SCAM! At Publishers Clearing House we NEVER ASK FOR MONEY to be sent to claim a prize.
• At Publishers Clearing House our major prizes of $10,000 or more are awarded in person, unannounced, by our famous Prize Patrol, or through notice in a certified letter.  We DO NOT call our winners ahead of time.
• Never provide your credit card or Social Security number to someone who calls.

How to Be a Super Mom: PCH Merchandise to the Rescue!

My daughter always asks me how to be a Super Mom .

Of course, everyone’s definition of “Super Mom” is different (if you have any Super Mom tips of your own please make your secret revealed in the comments below).  And it wasn’t until she could talk that my little girl actually gave me the title – but the truth is that my secret for being a Super Mom is to use a lot of handy household helpers from PCH. PCH merchandise really makes being a mom seem super easy!

Shhh.  Please don’t tell my daughter!  She thinks magical fairies came from a distant land to give me the power to “do it all”.  She answers her own question — and tells me that loving your child, being a best friend and baking yummy foods like pretty mini cupcakes is how to be a Super Mom (little does she realize that I use the Flower-Shaped Silicone Cupcake Holders – Set of 12 – from right here at PCH! You’ll find them toward the middle of page 3).  Then she tells me, “All the things you do make you super, mommy, like dancing with me on girls night (to one of our favorite Whitney Houston CDs — you can see that one right above the cupcake cups) and having lights ready when we want to have a living room camp out” (yep, you guessed it, they’re from PCH too – just a few products below those cupcake cups!). She thinks I’m a Super Mom, but I’m just a lucky mom who has an angel of a daughter AND gets to see all our PCH products first hand!

It’s true!  And now that I’ve had my secret revealed, I can honestly say that for me, PCH products really do come in handy for being a mom.  They just always seem to save the day — like on the night the cable went out — it was PCH merchandise to the rescue again when we played a special game with our King Size Deck of 52 Playing Cards (check them out on the top of page 2)!

Hello PCH Friends,

Wow! I just looked at the calendar and noticed that there’s just ONE MONTH until the famous PCH Prize Patrol hits the road to award the next Millionaire-making prize! And you know what that means…

Here at our offices, the anticipation of the February 28th “Forever” Prize event is building.
