This Week’s Big Prize Winners Never Lost Faith!

It’s been a whirlwind of travel for the Prize Patrol this week  – with prizes delivered to three lucky westerners  – who kept entering the PCH Sweepstakes every chance they got and never lost faith.  These three prize winners all had one thing in common: the attitude that “Real people really win!”

All of them were shocked when the Prize Patrol arrived with roses, balloons, champagne and the Big Check that they started shaking.  Each of them said something like “I believed that it was real, so I kept on entering. But I never expected YOU to be standing here at my front door — just like I’ve seen on TV!”

The first stop on this three-day marathon was Denver, CO where we surprised Miran Christner with $10,000.  Miran wasn’t home, but just as we were asking neighbors for help she drove in — fresh from a workout at the gym.  ”Oh no! Don’t videotape me like this!” she cried.  ”Why didn’t you tell me you were coming?”

We never tell anyone we are coming. That would ruin the surprise!

Miran, who never lost faith and entered the PCH Sweepstakes frequently, won from her entry at PCHSearch&Win — just like you can.

Next stop: Bakersfield, CA where we surprised Joe Davis.  Joe and his wife Ruth were home, so no help from neighbors was necessary.  In fact he opened the door immediately as he saw a TV news crew coming across his front lawn (and WHAT a beautiful lawn it was — greener than money!) Ruth was not the big-time PCH Sweepstakes believer that Joe was.  She’s a bigger NASCAR fan and said she wouldn’t believe Joe’s win until he had the real check in his hand.  With that, PRESTO, I handed it over — at which point Ruth said she’d have to start entering — so she could become one of our prize winners, too!

Third stop: the town that’s known for big prize money: Las Vegas, NV.  When we got to the home of Silvio, there was no sign of life when we rang the bell…and rang it again, and again … and then started knocking louder and louder and LOUDER!  Finally we gave up and went for a snack.  When we returned a bit later, there was a sign of life!   A friend at the house, Megan, told us she could get Silvio home from a local baseball game.  ”But don’t tell him what’s going on,” we reminded her. Within 20 minutes our winner drove in, and we were standing by ready to knock his socks off.  And did we ever!  Silvio was absolutely thrilled with his $7,000 prize. “I work at a casino but I’ve never won anything in my life!  Wait ’til I tell the guys there!”

PCH Company Growth and Shift to Play and Win Entertainment

From play and win entertainment to exciting consumer products, PCH’s company growth has been amazing!

At the start of every new year, I reflect on years past and see how much has changed, usually for the better. I’ve done this every year I’ve worked for PCH, and now that I’m nearing my five year anniversary, it’s amazing to recount all the company growth.

I can only imagine what it must feel like for Deborah Holland, PCH Executive Vice President, who has been with our company for over 30 years. Well it just so happens she’s given us an inside look at the transformation of PCH from a single channel, single-product line direct marketer — to a multi-channel provider of digital play and win entertainment and marketer of consumer products — in a new article out in Direct Marketing News (DM News), one of our industry’s leading trade publications.

Some of what is discussed in DM News you might already know from reading this blog. Like how PCH is shifting from airing live TV broadcasts of sweepstakes winning moments to streaming the videos of PCH winners on PCHtv.com. Or how our Prize Patrol members tweet live updates from the road. But I bet you didn’t know that our PCH Facebook fans actively discuss PCH seven times as much as fans of Budweiser, Starbucks and Coca-Cola! I’m sure even Debbie couldn’t have imagined that kind of company growth when she first walked through the doors of Publishers Clearing House in 1979.

But perhaps she did – after all, she’s been instrumental at nearly every step in PCH’s company growth. And boy, has it grown! From the traditional “Slots” scratch cards that were sent out in the mail — to free online play and win games that feature sound effects, animation and instant online redemptions. From magazine subscriptions only — to an ever-expanding product line of household goods, health and beauty items, pet, food, and children’s products that appeal to consumer special interests. The list goes on and on.

It May Not Be Leap Year But You Could Leap For Joy on February 28th!

2011 is not a Leap Year; indeed, February 29th will not show up on our calendars until 2012. But for the person who wins the newest Publishers Clearing House SuperPrize this February 28th there will certainly be cause for leaping — I mean jumping up and down and rejoicing, and maybe shedding some tears as well. Here at PCH headquarters in Port Washington, NY, the suspense is growing. Will the $1 Million A Year For Life SuperPrize be claimed by the timely return of a matching winning number? Or will we hold a second chance drawing among eligible entries to randomly select the winner of a $1 Million SuperPrize? Whatever the prize amount, on February 28th some smart person who recognized that “Someone has to win!” and entered our fabulous sweepstakes will experience the life-changing thrill of a PCH “winning moment” — and leap for joy!

Of course, the Prize Patrol will be present at the lucky winner’s door — with roses, balloons, cameras, champagne, the Big Check (as seen on TV) and the astounding news that “_________ is our newest Publishers Clearing House Millionaire!”

Having presided over hundreds of “winning moments” I can almost guarantee that the winner will say something like ‘OMG: This is unbelievable!” But why is it “unbelievable”? Haven’t you all seen countless PCH TV commercials featuring winners who are obviously unprepared for the surprise Prize Patrol visit? Believe me, these are not staged or rehearsed presentations. If the winners knew they were about to be videotaped for an appearance on national TV, wouldn’t you expect them to fix themselves up a bit? But no; that’s why you see flabbergasted winners in bathrobes, towels, undershirts, shirtless, shoeless, and breathless! Winner announcement day is almost here.
