PCHSearchandWin Celebrates Memorial Day

PCHSearchandWin wants to know what Memorial Day means to you. For some it means the start of the summer vacation season. For most it celebrates, commemorates and honors our brave men and women who proudly risk their lives in service to our country. Memorial Day has a very interesting history, some of which I will mention here. But, why not do your own search and see what other facts you can find about this historic holiday. PCHSearchandWin is a great place to start and maybe you could even win an instant prize to make your celebration even better!

Here are some Memorial Day facts: It began as a rite of remembrance after the Civil War, with the first known observance in Waterloo, New York in 1866. But, it was not called Memorial Day; the official holiday name was Decoration Day. In 1882, Decoration Day morphed into what we call Memorial Day, which was a more common, though unofficial, term used until after World War II. In 1967, Federal law declared the holiday’s official name Memorial Day. And, on June 28, 1968, Congress passed the Uniform Holidays Bill, which moved three holidays from their traditional dates to a specified Monday in order to create a convenient three-day weekend, of which Memorial Day was one. I’m not going to mention the other two holidays because this is a good opportunity for you to use PCHSearchandWin to find out for yourself – and maybe even win instantly in the process!

Celebrated on the last Monday of each May – this year on May 30th – by the early 1900s, it became an occasion for general expressions of remembrance for those who served in the military. How will you be celebrating Memorial Day this year? Do you have an interesting story about a family member or friend who has served in the military or specific war or is serving now? PCHSearchandWin wants to know, so please leave your comments and stories below.

This Memorial Day and each one hereafter, remember to raise your flag with us for those from the Civil War to World War II, from the Korean and Vietnam Wars to the Gulf War and into the present day so that we may honor those who gave (and give) their all and more for the freedoms we enjoy today!

Happy Memorial Day!
