A Look Behind The Scenes At PCH Play & Win With Max!

You love playing all sorts of games. You love chances to win. But have you ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes at PCH Play & Win? Over the next few months, we’ll be checking in with the folks who make it happen. Today we’re starting with Max B., Head Gamer at PCHgames.

I recently had the opportunity to chat with Max about games, dreams and his belief that food brings people together.

Max’s relationship with video games goes wayyy back. He confesses, “When I was a kid, all I wanted to do was become a game designer, or maybe a programmer and make games for a living.” And look at him now! Sounds like a glamorous job, right? But Max says that a typical day is “much more boring and businessy” than you might expect. His workday starts at home as he checks the site over a cup of coffee and runs through the daily instant-win games. And once he’s at the office? Just like any ‘ol job, bring on the meetings, phone calls and reports!

But Max isn’t complaining. “It just so happens that all the meetings, calls and reports are about sweepstakes, games and how to provide the best combination of those two things for free … which is pretty cool!”

Max came on board the team in 2010 when the company he’d been working for joined forces with PCH. It was an adjustment because the company was small and operated very much like a family. But Max soon learned that even though Publishers Clearing House is larger, it still operates like a family. Says Max, “When we came on board, it felt sort of like a big wedding — meeting new in-laws, making new friends, sharing stories and breaking bread.”

Speaking of food, lunch is very important behind the scenes at PCHgames. While most of PCH is located on Long Island, the PCHgames development team works in a smaller office in Manhattan. Shares Max, “It’s never official who’s doing or ordering what or when, but we find a way almost every day to cycle through our game room (oh, we have a game room, by the way) so that no one’s ever eating alone unless they choose to. I guess you could say it’s our favorite way of keeping the family tight.”

When they’re not bonding over take-out, the team is hard at work bringing you the games you love. Says Max, “Every day, I’m surrounded by talented, hard-working, thoughtful people, all pulling together to build great winning experiences.”

And Max’s favorite game on the site? “Amazing Sheriff, hands down!” Yes, Max loves games. And who better than a seasoned gamer to bring PCH play & win fans some of the best play and win experiences on the web?

I hope you enjoyed going behind the scenes with Max! If you have a question or comment for him, post it in the comments section below!

All the best!

Max I’d love your job. I have one question is about: Mahjongg Dimentions game, why does that game always has more tokens than other games? Because it is always raising up tokens so I keep play that game most often than others. It has a great exercises activity for vision and hand moving fast! I’d love it.

    Hi DeLayne!
How you doin? Thanks for the kind words and the questions! The tattoo you’re spying up there is actually one of the monsters from Maurice Sendak’s Where The Wild Things Are – the guy on the left in this picture. I was given the book when I was born, so it’s always been a part of my Max-ness.

I’m almost Greek – my mom’s Italian, so same ocean. Food-wise, I grew up on (and enjoy cooking myself) simple Italian food, but have always been a big fan of sushi and Thai. I’m also a huge BBQ freak, and since moving to NYC have gleefully discovered Cambodian and Jamaican food. Basically, I like to eat!
