PCH Winners Have The Biggest Hearts

When I first started with Publishers Clearing House approximately 4 ½ years ago, I heard from everyone that PCH’s fans, players, and winners have the biggest hearts. In fact, quite a few fans come from some of the more rural parts of America, and when they’re presented with a “Big Check” that automatically awards them $10,000, $25,000, $50,000, $100,000, $1,000,000 or even more, changing their priorities to match their new-found wealth seems completely ridiculous to them.

The Personal Dilemma

Admittedly, I have a skewed perspective of what it would be like if I were to suddenly become a PCH millionaire (even though, as an employee, I never could). Check out my blog from December 5 if you don’t believe me!

Real PCH Winners Have the Biggest Hearts

During these years, I’ve viewed several thousands of winning moments from the very first in 1988 right up to the most recent – a $1,000,000.00 SuperPrize to Judy Tschantz. And while nearly all winning moments share some similarities – crying, screaming, disbelief – I’ve always thought the most interesting part happens after the winner calms down a bit and can answer some questions, specifically, “What are you going to do with the money?” And that’s where the common denominator can be found.

Many PCH Winners Think of Helping Others First!

A moment ago, I mentioned Judy Tschantz. She answered the question telling us that she would share some of the money with family, take care of some home repairs, and (maybe) take a trip to Europe. Think back to John Wyllie, the first “Forever” prizewinner in 2012. His immediate reaction was to buy a house for his father and help out his kids. Then he said, “as long as I can make somebody else happy with some of this, that’d be good with me.”

And those are just two of millions of winners who plan to use their PCH prize money – from $10 to $10,000,000 – to make life better for family and friends. In fact, I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a winner talk about themselves first. It’s always what they can do to improve others’ lives – home repairs, medical bills, auto expenses, college tuition, wedding expenses, etc. With nearly eight million winners collecting more than $409,000,000 since 1967, could you even imagine how many people have been helped by PCH winners opening their hearts (and wallets) to contribute to another’s happiness? It’s simply astounding!!!

It really is a tremendous thing to be part of, one person’s happiness and the happiness they plan to spread to others.

Here’s to more Winners!
