Meet Desiree Scudder, Our Newest SuperPrize Winner

The morning of October 23rd found the PCH Prize Patrol standing outside an apartment in Irving, Texas – just outside Dallas — looking for Desiree Scudder, our newest Million Dollar winner.

But there were two problems: First, no one answered the door despite our increasingly hard knocking.  And second, it was raining cats and dogs in a record-breaking deluge – as reported in the national news.  The apartment manager across the way saw us in our soggy blue blazers and took pity.  She knew that a male occupant of the apartment worked nights and might sleep through our loudest efforts.  So she called his wife — at work — and exclaimed “Call home and wake your husband!  You won’t believe who’s outside your door!”

A phone call woke Michael up and brought him groggily to the door where we learned that Desiree, his daughter, was ten miles away at a lab employed as a toxicologist.  So off we went — to surprise her on the job.

Well, we knocked the socks off Desiree and her co-workers.  “I’m on cloud nine!” she exclaimed on being presented with roses, balloons, champagne and a Big Check.  Colleagues couldn’t believe what was happening in their ordinarily quiet lab environment and rushed to embrace her with hugs and congratulations.  Watch Desiree’s “winning moment” for yourself below!

When told that she was the winner of a “Second Chance” drawing – because there was no match to the winning number – Desiree shook her head in disbelief and exclaimed ‘Cool!”  Yes, she might not have won $7,000 a week for life, but she was more than happy with her Million Dollar prize. “Hey, it was free!” she said over and over again.  And because she is a PCH SuperFan on Facebook, she also received a bonus of $10,000 a year for life plus $1,000 Cash on the spot.

In a follow-up phone call with Desiree, we learned that her family was absolutely “floored” by the news of her win.   So far she has only allowed herself one treat: a massage — a real luxury for this hard-working 30-year old who put herself through college by working three jobs at a time.

Congratulations Desiree, and welcome to our huge and ever-growing family of winners!  And to the rest of you, follow Desiree’s advice: Enter every chance you get and you could be a winner too.
