Dave

After many years as one of those “Mad Men” with New York ad agencies, I joined Publishers Clearing House in 1981 as Director of Advertising. Initially I got to know our sweepstakes winners when they were brought to our Port Washington, NY headquarters to collect their prizes. Then, in 1988, Todd Sloane and I started the Prize Patrol, delivering Big Checks in-person to winners’ homes and video-taping their surprise and excitement for our TV commercials. Along the way I was interviewed on countless TV and radio talk shows, spreading the word on the absolute reality of our televised “winning moments.” Now, after more than a thousand winner visits -- awarding over $300 million in prizes, I am less active in PCH’s day-to-day business but still travel from coast to coast as Prize Patrol Ambassador. I never tire of knocking on doors and “knocking the socks off” lucky PCH fans; it's a thrill every single time. When not on PCH duty I'm involved in various community and church activities, play the piano, play bridge, bike, exercise, and walk our two dogs.

Everyone we meet says “You Prize Patrol’ers have the greatest job in the world.”  They’re right of course.  What could be more thrilling and satisfying than surprising devoted PCH Fans!   They scream, shake, cry – and then are so relieved to be able to pay bills and turn sleepless nights into sweet dreams. While our […]

When someone is no longer employed – either for reasons of health, company downsizing or retirement — what could be more welcome than a visit from the Publishers Clearing House Prize Patrol — with roses, balloons and a Big Check? Just ask Colleen and Wendy.  They will tell you just how welcome recent Prize Patrol […]

Finally Election Day 2016 is here!   After a year and a half of campaigning – which was exhausting for all of us as well as the candidates — the “race for the White House” is almost over. If you are eligible to vote and have not yet gone to the polls, make sure you do […]

Every now and then when the PCH Prize Patrol arrives at a winner’s home, the person who answers the doorbell is not the winner.  So we hear exclamations like “Oh, no, she just went out shopping!” or “OMG, he’s at work!” The person opening the door seems afraid that the Big Check – worth thousands […]

As a PCH’er for 35 years and a Prize Patrol’er for 28, I have personally racked up a lot of statistics — like: Well over a quarter billion dollars’ worth of prizes awarded. Almost a thousand “winning moments.” Visits to 48 of our 50 states  (including Alaska and Hawaii), “Big Check” deliveries to huge cities […]

We Americans have a big decision to make this November.  You know what I’m talking about: a choice that will affect all of us, our families, those we hold dear and the global community. Not to downplay the importance of that choice on Election Day, but I must remind you that you can make a […]

It seems that competition isn’t limited to sports these days — like college and professional athletics, golf and tennis tournaments or global events like the big summer sporting event.  You can hardly turn on the TV without seeing a competition between dancers, chefs, home decorators, models, singers, dogs or beaches.  Houses are even competing against […]

Years ago you might have received a postcard from a friend or relative on vacation somewhere wonderful.   Pictured on one side might have been an exotic land or an exciting city, and a greeting on the other side might have said “Wish you were here!”  And you’d think, “Oh YES!  How I wish I was […]

Back in November 2015 I wrote a blog asking, “Where would YOU like to move?” In that blog I talked about how President Barack Obama could move anywhere he wants after he leaves the White House in January 2017.  The reason is that he and most former presidents have huge bank accounts derived from big […]

A year ago I told you about a new puppy at our house: Lily.  Immediately she brought much happiness into our lives – reminding us of that quote from the classic comic strip “Peanuts”: “Happiness is a warm puppy.” While Lily is now a year old, she is still a puppy at heart and so […]
