Conan O’Brien Joins The Prize Patrol?
After many years of surprising people with the news that they are winners in the Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes, it takes a lot to surprise me. But that’s just how I felt watching TV this weekend.
All of sudden, a commercial came on with what looked like a strange version of our famous Prize Patrol van. Then when the announcer said – “miracles can happen, and dreams do come true” – I thought I was dreaming. I knew that Publishers Clearing House wasn’t running any of our TV commercials right now — the commercials for our huge $1 Million A Year For Life SuperPrize just stopped airing.
Then things on my TV got even stranger when Conan O’Brien stepped out of the this Prize Patrol van, with balloon, roses, a cameraman, and a big check. Wow – this was really looking familiar to me. I won’t ruin the surprise by telling you what happened next, but it seems like Conan is also a PCH fan and this commercial was a parody of our famous winning moments, designed to promote his new show on TBS. It’s a very funny commercial and you can see it for yourself here:
We have been spoofed before – on Saturday Night Live, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and The Late Show with David Letterman, but as the co-founder of the Prize Patrol over 20 years ago, I still get a kick out of seeing how the Publishers Clearing House Prize Patrol has become an advertising icon and part of the American pop culture landscape. Seems like everyone dreams of that special knock on the door with the news that they are a winner in the famous Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes.
I’m sure you’d like to get a Prize Patrol visit too! How about a surprise on February 28th with the $1 Million A Year For Life SuperPrize. You have until February 15th to enter – so go to pch.com right now and do it!
We could show up at your house and maybe we’ll even convince Conan O’Brien to come along!
Good Luck!
