Congratulations to This Year’s Graduating Class From the Prize Patrol

Last Updated: June 3, 2011

I have not been asked to deliver a commencement address to a high school or college graduating class; but if I was given that honor I would say “CONGRATULATIONS!  Your dedication and intelligence has earned you a diploma!  Now, carry on – applying those qualities to your chosen pursuit.  God bless you, and good luck!”

Come to think of it, that short address contains words I have spoken hundreds of times – to prize winners and would-be winners of the Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes.

In the seconds after our Prize Patrol presents roses, balloons and a Big Check worth thousands or millions of dollars to a lucky PCH Sweepstakes winner, I say “Congratulations!  You were smart and persistent, and — look! — it paid off!”

When I talk to the hundreds of people I meet who WANT to win, I urge them to use their intelligence and stick-to-it-iveness and “Enter the Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes!”  Then I add, “Don’t be a dummy and fail to enter – or you will lose for sure.  And don’t be discouraged if you don’t win on the first try.  Be persistent!  Enter every day – as our online rules allow.”

Finally, I add “Good luck!” – because I know that luck plays a part.  But, again, if you don’t enter the PCH sweepstakes you cannot possibly win.

Now – to all of you in this year’s graduating class: CONGRATULATIONS!  I know that the employment outlook is discouraging — even for some of you who finished near the top of your graduating class.  I wish we could wave a magic wand and paint a rosy picture of opportunity.  That is not within our power; but I CAN urge you to “Be smart, be persistent, be optimistic, and enter the Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes at once. You could be a winner!”  A simple click on this link to pch.com will get you started.

Good luck … and hopeful Congratulations!
