How to clear cache and cookies

Have any of the following ever happened to you while browsing the web?  Trouble signing into one of our Publishers Clearing House websites? A page that won’t load? An error message? These minor problems can usually be remedied by clearing your computer’s cache and cookies.  If you’re wondering — how do I clear my cache and cookies? — I’m going to show you how!

First, What Are Cache And Cookies?

When you surf the web, your browser automatically stores various images and files in cache so when you return to a particular page or site, it will download faster. And, faster’s better, right? Well, yes. But sometimes this storing of information in the cache means you might not be seeing the most recent page version. Don’t worry — you can easily fix this.

Cookies are small text files that web sites like PCH.com use to store your preferences and personalize your web pages.  Meaning you don’t have to log onto your favorite PCH site every time you visit. But sometimes a cookie is no longer valid, which means you might see an error message. That’s ok. You can fix this easily too. Just follow the steps below.

How Do I Clear My Cache And Cookies?

Clearing your cache and cookies works differently in every internet browser. These instructions are for Internet Explorer 9, 10 or 11. We also have instructions if you’re using a different web browser.

• Open your browser and press Ctrl+Shift+Delete keys on your keyboard at the same time to open the “Delete Browsing History” window.

• In the window that appears, place a checkmark to the left of “Temporary Internet Files” and “Cookies”. You will also need to remove the checkmarks from all of the other boxes.

• Click the “Delete” button.

• Now restart your browser and continue to search the web. It is important that you close out of all open windows for this to apply.

Clearing your cache and cookies takes only a few minutes and should fix most problems you might encounter. If you should require further assistance, please reach out to our Publishers Clearing House customer service team.
