What Happens If I Win and I’m Not Home?

One of the most frequent questions we get asked here at Publishers Clearing House is “What happens If I Win and I’m Not Home?” Because this is SUCH an important question, we had the PCH Video Group put together a new video to answer it for you. It’s part of our new “PCH CHAT” series staring Howie, and the Prize Patrol! Watch below to find out what happens.

As Danielle and Todd explained in the video, if the winner isn’t home, the Prize Patrol does NOT give the prize to someone else. What they will do is WAIT for the winner to come home. Often times, they have to wait a really long time, which is what happened with Rory Bellamy, our $1 Million winner from November 2012, and Pam Barton. Can you believe the Prize Patrol waited a whole weekend for Pam?

In some cases, the Prize Patrol has even tracked winners down at work! Can you imagine getting surprised with a Big Check in person at your workplace? That’s what happened to our $10,000 winner Carol Copeland who the Prize Patrol surprised in front of a classroom full of students!

So remember everyone, the Prize Patrol ALWAYS finds their winner. So keep playing  and YOU could be next!

  3. I was told by the caller who said he name is David Miller, head of the prize patrol that I had to phone Albert Johnson at a 516 area code to confirm my prize and set a time for the patrol to come to present the prize. I was NOT asked for any money, just to call to confirm a time to arrive. He said it was now the law that they had to call ahead.

    1. Hi Patricia! Please report all contacts from scammers to PCH via this link: http://bit.ly/Report-Scam-To-PCH. PCH does partner with the Federal Trade Commission and we send all scam reports to them so please make sure you let us know anytime a scammer contacts you. Remember, the real PCH never notifies major prize winners via phone, standard mail, email, or social media, and we never ask winners to pay to claim their prize. You can see more Safety Tips here: https://bit.ly/FraudProtection2. Please be careful everyone; don’t become a scammer’s victim.

  4. I was sent a notice of cash prices from the Publishers Clearinghouse. Vice President Susan Williamson sent a request to activate the code. Is this for real? Or are you telling the truth? I’ve tried, but I don’t have a computer. using my phone’s games. Which is fun and interesting to have a beautiful dream of winning. It would be nice to get out of government housing for a while. Thank you

  5. I was told by another winner that she saw my name as a winner also. This would be for the Publishers Clearing House PCH Facebook promotion trust fund, The amount was for $200,000.00 in cash. Can you check and see if this is true?

  6. Apx. 2 weeks ago I got a message on my laptop where I won a major lotto prize. Could you check it out and let me know. They said to press 1 to start activations.

    1. Hi Donald! I’m sorry to tell you that was a scammer, not the real PCH. It’s important to remember that PCH does not contact winners of a major prize via phone, text, email, mail, or on Social Media. Also, if anyone asks you for money for any reason to claim a prize, you can be sure they’re a scammer. Please don’t give them any money, or any personal information! You can report them to us at this link: https://bit.ly/Report-Scam-To-PCH. We provide numerous videos, blogs, and tips to recognize these scammers here: https://info.pch.com/fraud-protection-2/. Stay safe!

      1. Hi, I read your reply to another user about being contacted by someone claiming to be from PCH. This happened to me last year, and I knew it was a scam. Anyway, you said in your previous reply that PCH doesn’t contact major winners by mail (snail mail), so if I won but wasn’t at home, wouldn’t the next logical step be to send me a registered letter in the mail? Especially since PCH doesn’t call or email (although I have received emails saying I’ve won something, and a few days later I opened my mailbox and there was a small check for $5 or $10 from PCH). Surely PCH would have to send an official letter to the winner, or yes, even call them if necessary; otherwise, how would the winner ever be notified?

      2. Hi Cassyashton! Thank you for contacting PCH. In order for us to assist you with your question we will need a bit more information. We kindly ask that you contact us at your convenience.
