PCH Receives an Award for Giving Back to Those in Need

Greetings, fans and friends,

You know how PCH loves to give back to those in need?

Well, on Thursday evening, March 22, I was lucky enough to join my fellow PCHers at a very special event! The charitable organization “Rock and Wrap It Up!” presented Publishers Clearing House with the 2018 Lena and Joseph Mandelbaum Humanitarian Award at an honoree dinner and ceremony.

Wendy Smith (2nd from left), PCH Sr. Vice President and leader of the PCH Corporate Social Responsibility team, receives a humanitarian award from Sy Mandelbaum (left) and members of his family.

The award recognized PCH for its partnership with Rock and Wrap It Up! at its annual Gifting Event held on “Giving Tuesday,”  now in its second year. PCH has donated over 3,500 toys from excess inventory that were hand gift-wrapped by employees and given to families in need during the holiday season. PCH’s donations have also included much-needed winter apparel for RWU’s Veterans program. In total, over 7,000 gifts have been donated since 2016, including 2,000 items for veterans at local VA hospitals.

PCHers wrap gifts for needy families on “Giving Tuesday” this past November.
Each year, PCH donates toys from excess inventory to children in need.

Rock and Wrap It Up! is a unique charitable organization that researches, discovers and nurtures potential sources willing to share renewable assets. RWU’s donors include touring bands, educational institutions, the hospitality industry, professional sports teams, gaming parlors, hospitals and TV/film shoots throughout North America. I learned that the reason this charity is called “Rock and Wrap It Up!” is that one of its original methods of helping the needy was to wrap up and donate unused food served at rock concerts! Cool, right?

The Lena and Joseph Mandelbaum Humanitarian Award that PCH received is named for the parents of Rock and Wrap It Up! founder Syd Mandelbaum, both of whom were Holocaust survivors. Because Mr. Mandelbaum’s parents endured starvation conditions while in the concentration camps, the family vowed that no one should ever again go hungry.

PCH’s donations to Rock and Wrap It Up! is just one of many ways in which we give back. Take a look at this video and you’ll agree that Publishers Clearing House helps make dreams come true in many ways!

Fans and friends, I have a sneaking suspicion that you, too, get a warm fuzzy feeling when you help others in need! What kinds of organizations would you donate to if you won BIG from PCH? Tell us in the comments below!
