An Annual Prize Patrol Highlight: The PCH Giveback!
While every Prize Patrol award is a thrilling experience for us, there’s a special presentation that takes place every year that warms our collective heart and makes us proud to be part of a company with a long tradition of philanthropy. That’s the PCH Giveback — when we present a Big Check to world-famous St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Over the last five years PCH has donated $550,000 to this magnificent organization. It has been my privilege to be a regular part of the presentations which take place at the St. Jude headquarters in Memphis, Tennessee. While there, we Prize Patrol’ers are given tours of the medical and research facilities and are always overwhelmed by the dramatic progress made year after year in the treatment of children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. We meet doctors and scientists and staffers who are dedicated to their ever increasingly life-saving work. We also see families with medically-challenged youngsters whose brave little smiles are brightened by colorful and happy surroundings unlike anything you’ve ever seen in a hospital. The walls are adorned with artwork and murals depicting things and activities kids love. It’s not unusual to see visitors dressed up as clowns or cartoon characters happily greeting the patients.
There are also many reminders around the impressive St. Jude campus of founder Danny Thomas, the famous entertainer whose mission later in life was to honor the patron saint of hope in lost causes. There are portraits, sculptures, even cartoons depicting the gates of heaven welcoming the star of Thomas’s 1950’s sitcom “Make Room for Daddy” who died in 1991.
This year PCH pledges to donate another $100,000 to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital with our annual PCH Giveback. Your viewing of “Inside PCH,” our new Facebook live weekly program on Tuesday, 2:00 PM Eastern Time, will affirm our company’s support and hopefully generate an additional $50,000 donation for this charity, which you PCH fans annually name your very favorite. Be sure to tune in on September 26th to help us make a difference!
With many thanks,
