Flashback Friday: What’s Changed At PCH Over The Years?

Last Updated: July 10, 2018

A LOT has changed at PCH over the years … but some very important things have remained the same!  It’s been a long time since Dave Sayer and Todd Sloane hit the road for the “maiden voyage” of the Prize Patrol, with Todd doubling as the camera man. But it became an overnight sensation/PCH tradition, and now EVERYONE knows about those exciting deliveries made in the familiar Prize Patrol Van!

When I signed on with PCH many years ago, I fell in love with the seaside town of Port Washington, where Publishers Clearing House had been “born” in 1953 by our founder, Harold Mertz. The rapidly expanding business moved to its new headquarters on Channel Drive, and there it stayed for almost 50 years.

It was a wonderful place to work, especially in my own Creative department, which was set in a light-flooded atrium, surrounded by beautiful tropical plants and trees.  At the time, PCH still sold mostly magazine subscriptions at huge discounts – and we still do!  But now, Publishers Clearing House sells all kinds of terrific merchandise – everything from jewelry, housewares and snacks to music, movies and health-and-beauty offers.

After decades in Port Washington, our ever-expanding PCH succumbed to its “growing pains” and moved to its brand-spanking-new headquarters in Jericho, NY.  The surroundings are definitely different, but our commitment is still the same: providing the very best for our customers — and giving away millions of dollars in Free Prizes!

HOW many millions has PCH given away so far?

Making real live wonderful people like YOU winners is something that’s NEVER going to change at Publishers Clearing House.  And while most people didn’t even have access to the Web when I first signed on, pch.com has made a HUGE expansion online, offering folks chances to win FREE prizes every day, whether they play our exciting games, search the Web with us or visit us on PCHfrontpage or the PCH Fan Page on Facebook.

Moving our corporate headquarters … our new Prize Patrol Elite Team … our product offers … our ever-growing online “presence” — a lot HAS changed at Publishers Clearing House over the years. But this will always remain the same: WE LOVE YOU AND WE WANT YOU TO WIN!

The Best to You Always,
Marybeth
