Meet PCH’s Newest SuperPrize Winner, Jason Clark!

Last Updated: October 4, 2013

Jason Clark of Pocahontas, Arkansas, works “on the river” – as he puts it, on barges that ply the Mississippi and other major waterways of the U. S.  He’s been doing that for ten years (since he was 19) and welcomes the 30-day home leaves between month-long duties for time with his wife Audrey, a hard-working registered nurse, and four children.

While life on a barge is nothing like home, these days there are computers on board and – happily – the ever-present opportunity to enter the Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes online at pch.com.

Jason took advantage of that opportunity – thinking “Someone has got to win.  Why not me?”  That’s the spirit – and the mark of a winner-in-the-making.  Nonetheless, this young man didn’t really expect the Prize Patrol to knock on his door on February 29th – with roses, balloons, champagne and a Big Check worth $1 Million!

Luckily Jason was not at work when we arrived.  (We Prize Patrol’ers have tracked down winners everywhere from factories to schools to hospitals to shopping malls; but finding him on a river route thousands of miles long would have been a real challenge!)  But he wasn’t home either.  He had gone out for lunch with a friend while Audrey rested up for her hospital shift before the kids came home from school.

As we stood at the Clarks’ front door ready for the “winning moment,” Audrey came to our aid by summoning Jason on his cell phone insisting “You’ve just got to come home.”  Twenty minutes later Jason arrived not at all sure what could be so important to interrupt a friendly get-together.

Danielle, Todd and I – plus our cameraman and local media – were waiting, ready to deliver the Big Check and the surprise of a lifetime.  You can see the winning moment” at pchtv.com – in which Jason admits he was “speechless.”  (He might have been dreaming about such a miracle for a long time; but words more descriptive than “cooler than heck” escaped him.)

Follow-up phone conversations between PCH and Jason indicate that this winner is one happy man – not to mention a very nice guy.  He’s looking forward to furthering his education and a bright future for his family.
