If I had the money….

Like many people, I would buy my dream house, pay bills and take care of my family. My dream home would be on the east coast by the beach. The inside would be spacious and inviting. Its landscape would include big shady trees, lush hydrangeas, roses and purple campanulas. Of course, I’d take care of debts and throw some payback Mom’s way so she could retire in style, plus a college fund for the niece and nephew. Then, I’d invest, take classes and give money to family and friends in need as well as my favorite charities and my church. Volunteer work with children is also on the list. Before returning to work part-time, I’d do the things I never find time for like visiting out-of-town friends, seeing the cherry blossoms in DC, the Fall foliage of New Hampshire or the latest plays on Broadway. Maybe I’d get a classic Mustang, too.

WOW! I sure have a lot of plans for that Big Check, don’t I? How about you? While daydreaming about what I would do if I won the money, it struck me: we ALL want a nice place to call home, good health and happiness for ourselves and our loved ones, plus financial security, too. But exactly how that $5,000 A Week For Life Big Check from PCH would be spent is where things get really interesting!

Ask yourself: “If I had the money, what would I do?”

Would your dream house be at the beach or maybe in the mountains? Would you put yourself behind the wheel of a Mustang or perhaps a Porsche? Any other big splurges? Maybe if you WIN BIG, you’d work on your bowling game – - by buying your own alley! Perhaps you would use your Big Check to embark on something really out-of-this-world – - like blasting off into outer space on one of the upcoming commercial Virgin Galactic spaceflights for the public!

Fairy Tales Can Come True!

For centuries, people who were not “well off” have fantasized about turning insignificant things into objects of wealth.   In their fairy tale “Rumpelstiltskin,” the Brothers Grimm wrote about a miller’s daughter spinning straw into gold.  Jack (of “Beanstalk” fame) stole a hen that laid eggs that turned out to be gold.  Folklore is full of such imaginings.

Folks today are not too different.  We all fantasize about finding “a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.”  No wonder lottery ticket sellers and gaming casinos are such popular destinations.

But why leave home?  Fairy tales can come true and you can go for that “pot of gold” from the place where you are sitting right now. This Week’s Big Prize Winners Never Lost Faith!

It’s been a whirlwind of travel for the Prize Patrol this week  – with prizes delivered to three lucky westerners  – who kept entering the PCH Sweepstakes every chance they got and never lost faith.  These three prize winners all had one thing in common: the attitude that “Real people really win!”

All of them were shocked when the Prize Patrol arrived with roses, balloons, champagne and the Big Check that they started shaking.  Each of them said something like “I believed that it was real, so I kept on entering. But I never expected YOU to be standing here at my front door — just like I’ve seen on TV!”

The first stop on this three-day marathon was Denver, CO where we surprised Miran Christner with $10,000.  Miran wasn’t home, but just as we were asking neighbors for help she drove in — fresh from a workout at the gym.  ”Oh no! Don’t videotape me like this!” she cried.  ”Why didn’t you tell me you were coming?”

We never tell anyone we are coming. That would ruin the surprise!

Miran, who never lost faith and entered the PCH Sweepstakes frequently, won from her entry at PCHSearch&Win — just like you can.

Next stop: Bakersfield, CA where we surprised Joe Davis.  Joe and his wife Ruth were home, so no help from neighbors was necessary.  In fact he opened the door immediately as he saw a TV news crew coming across his front lawn (and WHAT a beautiful lawn it was — greener than money!) Ruth was not the big-time PCH Sweepstakes believer that Joe was.  She’s a bigger NASCAR fan and said she wouldn’t believe Joe’s win until he had the real check in his hand.  With that, PRESTO, I handed it over — at which point Ruth said she’d have to start entering — so she could become one of our prize winners, too!

Third stop: the town that’s known for big prize money: Las Vegas, NV.  When we got to the home of Silvio, there was no sign of life when we rang the bell…and rang it again, and again … and then started knocking louder and louder and LOUDER!  Finally we gave up and went for a snack.  When we returned a bit later, there was a sign of life!   A friend at the house, Megan, told us she could get Silvio home from a local baseball game.  ”But don’t tell him what’s going on,” we reminded her. Within 20 minutes our winner drove in, and we were standing by ready to knock his socks off.  And did we ever!  Silvio was absolutely thrilled with his $7,000 prize. “I work at a casino but I’ve never won anything in my life!  Wait ’til I tell the guys there!”

How Our First Prize Days Winner Got Her Big Check!

Your Neighbors: The Prize Patrol’s Best Friends

One lesson you can take away from watching the Prize Patrol surprise our many winners:

BE NICE TO YOUR NEIGHBORS!

Neighbors are one of the most valuable resources for the PCH Prize Patrol. They can provide us with crucial information about a winner’s whereabouts…. often preventing the Prize Patrol from simply sitting in the van for hours… watching… waiting.

This was definitely the case on April 12^th in Queens, NY. Danielle Lam, her mom, and I headed out to surprise the first of the April Prize Days winners. Tiny Bowens was the winner of $5,000.00 and we were excited to make the short trip – Queens is right in our “backyard.”  So on the beautiful Thursday morning, we gathered our flowers, balloons, and Big Check.

Danielle rang the doorbell of Tiny’s home. No answer.

Danielle knocked on the door. No answer.

After some waiting around, it was clear that no one was going to open the door. So what now?

Plan B! Danielle and I separated and took the block by storm. We knocked on door after door, but a lot of Tiny’s neighbors weren’t answering either! It wasn’t until our fourth attempt that we finally found someone to help us. Tiny’s neighbor and friend informed us that she was definitely home – they had only spent the morning exercising a short while before. While she eagerly went to call Tiny to instruct her to open the front door NOW, Danielle and I ran back to Tiny’s steps with the Big Check in our hands.

And you know how a winning moment goes… “Surprise! It’s the Prize Patrol and you’re a Prize Days winner of $5,000.00!” Tiny was extremely grateful and shocked by her luck – and the Big Check. She’s been entering for 10 years and had entered as recently as the night before. All along, Tiny always believed in PCH and waited for her lucky day to finally arrive.

Congratulations to Tiny! We hope the prize will bring happiness to her – whether she uses it for bills or for some personal pleasures.

This was a great start to the Prize Days Big Check deliveries. Remember, if you’re entering the sweepstakes, you better make sure you are kind to your neighbors. You never know when we’ll need their help!
