PCH: Money-Saving Driving Tips and Free Gas, Too!

PCH wants you on the road to a really great summer vacation. So, we’ll be prepared to award a brand new Ford Escape Hybrid SUV, plus $2,OOO.OO worth of gas to one lucky winner?! All you have to do to enter is visit the newly redesigned PCH.com home page now and register. Just the possibility of winning $2,OOO.OO worth of gas is enough to make anyone cheer. Woo Hoo! Okay, the SUV’s not too shabby  either!

So, why jump up and down for free gas? Do I even have to ask? I just paid $4.15 a gallon, and that was after it went DOWN four cents – which got me thinking. Summer’s almost here and many of us will be taking road trips, whether for a week’s vacation or short jaunts. Now more than ever, it’s so important to do all we can to save money. But, that shouldn’t mean we have to completely sacrifice fun, enjoyable trips with family and friends. After all, those are the things memories are made from. So, here is a list of driving tips to save money on fuel while enjoying your summer excursions, or anytime, really. I hope you’ll learn something you didn’t know before…I certainly did!

1. Hotels Offering Free Gas:  Many hotels and bed-and-breakfasts across the country are offering free gas rebates when you book with them. Some give gas gift cards while others have their own filling stations on premises that you can use for free! Want to know who’s offering free fuel — go to PCHSearch&Win at search.pch.com to find out, or search for anything you choose. It works exactly like Google but the added bonus is that you could win prizes instantly simply for searching!

2. Drive 55:  In response to the other oil crisis in the 1970s, the United States government lowered the speed limit to 55 mph because driving slower can boost mileage as much as 5%. Still think you can’t drive 55? You just might want to now.

3. Don’t Stop and Start Abruptly:  These both require extra fuel. So the next time you want to put the pedal to the metal, think how much it’s going to cost you. Oh, and the officer in the next lane just might make it cost you more.

4. Don’t Overfill Your Gas Tank:  When you do this, gas can slosh around and escape. So, make sure your gas cap fits correctly or you risk fuel vaporizing from your tank. And, that’s going to make your money vaporize, too!

5. Don’t Be Afraid Of AC: Today’s air-conditioners are more efficient than years ago – causing less drag on your engine   than driving with open windows. Ah! That’s a relief!

Make sure to leave some of your own fuel-saving tips in the comments section below or visit our Fan page on Facebook. Let us know how the tips above work for you. And, if you like, send us some of your road trip photos – maybe we’ll feature them in a future blog post.

PCH wants you to remember to take us with you while you’re on the road! Simply access search.pch.com on your mobile device — imagine winning an instant cash prize while you’re on the go – it could happen! And, that would pay for more gas! Woo Hoo!

Have a safe trip!

Fuel Saving Ideas~Lucky for me I am only 15 minutes away from work and the highest speed I get to go is 45mph. I always park my car and I walk whenever possible, especially when it comes to shopping and my weights I use now have become my groceries. Thank God, I only have to carry a 20lb of dog food every few months! *smile*
Have a Great Day everyone!

My Fuel saving tips:

1) Make sure your tires are properly inflated.

2) If the speed limit is 25, drive 25. Stay in the right lane so other drivers wont be ‘to upset’ about going around you.

3) If the temp is 90 or above, set your heater to its lowest setting instead of using your A/C. Mines only go as low as 60. Trust me, a 60 degree breeze feels real good in 90 degree weather, and it’ll keep your car from over heating as well.

4) Every time you fill up, add a bottle of STP gas treatment. It removes the water from your tank which helps your car run smoother.

5) If you drive a pick up, keep your gate up. The wind forms a bubble of air that keeps more air from getting into the bed. Leaving your gate down creates drag.

6) Bad wheel alignment can also waste gas by pulling to the right or to the left. Also uneven tread-ware.

7) Filling up your tank can also make you burn more gas because it adds extra weight to your vehicle. As you know, the heavier the vehicle, the more power you need to move it.

8) Feeding off tip #7, remove unnecessary items from your vehicle. Clean out your truck. You don’t need two jacks, two spare tires, a whole tool box, a bag of clothes or a body :D in your truck. The lighter the vehicle the less energy it needs to move it.

9) Only buy as much gas as you need. We all think we are saving money by filling up our tanks with the cheapest gas, but you’re not. How many times have you filled up and the very next day or so, before you even used up halve a tank, the gas prices dropped 5 cents or more…you’ll get upset even if it dropped just 1 cent.

10) STOP DRIVING SO MUCH. Do we have to drive everywhere? The store is just 5 blocks away. Buy a lock for your bike. If you absolutely need to drive, make a list and get everything you need in one trip. If you are going to multiple stores in the same area, park your vehicle near the last store you want to go into and walk to the others. Or in the center of them all.

11) Last but not least, It’s okay to let your friends, and ‘family”, catch the bus sometimes. Giving you gas money is loving, but not always good enough. What if you catch a flat, or worse, while transporting someone…now you have to pass that ‘love’ on to your tire.

Well, those are my fuel saving driving tips. Hope you found them helpful. Now, if only I would do what I say….:D

The $25K link is dead again tonight. Two nights in a row! No entries for Ford Escape because we can’t get to it. Suggest check operation of web site more frequently for glitches in programming.
