SCAM! They call and say you are the Grand Prize winner of $5 million and a new car and they are coming by tomorrow. The call comes through on a cell phone (Jamaica). They try to sell you a prepaid Credit card to cover the taxes on the car.

I got this call today, myself. She told me all I needed was a drivers’ license, state ID card, and get this, or a wal-mart card for ID. I thought, “how is a walmart card a form of ID” Then she asks, “How does it feel to win 5 million and a new car. I told her, “I will believe it when I see it!” That’s when she said she would call me back and hung up on me.

I can’t believe this ding-bat called me again yesterday. She said, “We are coming tomorrow to delivery your prize.” I asked her, “I thought you were coming today?” She said that was why she was calling again. She kept telling me how to buy the prepaid credit card (green dot money tax paper scratch card) to cover the $390.00 tax and wanted me to take it to my bank. I had her SO irritated and frustrated she finally hung up. She asked at one point, “You say you have it, why aren’t you repeating it correctly.” I had hoped I could irritate and frustrate her more because I knew it was a scam.

Anyway, the phone call is coming from a cell phone, caller ID “Cell Phone JM” and the number is 876-840-1420

Hi Cheryl, thank you for bringing this to our attention. It sounds like you have been the victim of a scam. The offer you’re describing did not come from Publishers Clearing House. PCH does not notify winners by phone. Also, there is never a catch with entering or winning any PCH Sweepstakes. PCH, like any legitimate Sweepstakes, will never ask you to pay any fee or make a purchase to claim a prize. You may report this occurrence to us using our toll-free number 1-800-392-4190. We also recommend that you report this incident to the National Fraud Center at http://www.fraud.org.
