Behind the Winning Moment: Theresa Crowder

Hi PCH Blog readers! This is Matt K. from PCH Creative. I’m back with more winning moment stories! Instead of big SuperPrize winners, we thought we might chat with winners of smaller amounts.  But still,  these huge cash payouts would make anyone jump up and down! Here’s a look “behind the winning moment” with Publishers Clearing House winner Theresa Crowder …

Maybe you’ve heard the famous quote, “it is better to give than to receive.” Obviously that’s a motto we live by at Publishers Clearing House!  All day long, we’re giving away fantastic prizes and offering instant win opportunities.

I guess that generous attitude is rubbing off on our winners, because that’s just the stance that recent $25,000.00 winner Theresa Crowder took when she won in December 2013!

Behind the winning moment

The week before I won, I was telling a coworker that I had a dream that I had won the lottery!,” Theresa laughs.  “They responded by reminding me that you have to buy lottery tickets to win!”

Well thankfully, Theresa had already been a faithful Publishers Clearing House entrant, which we all know is 100% FREE, all day, every day!  When I asked her how she felt  when Dave Sayer showed up at her job with a Big Check, she said she “was totally shocked.”

Theresa Crowder, PCH Winner

They surprised me at my job, and I was amazed.  All of my coworkers were excited as well, even a week later.  You would have thought they had won the prize too!”

Everyone in Theresa’s life was having fun with her recent big win.  In fact, one of her good friends left a her a funny voicemail saying, “Listen Theresa, I know you have a lot of family coming out of the woodwork to ask you to borrow some money.  Well I’ll save you from that…I’m just going to ask you for money straight out!  No beating around the bush!”  Theresa says she still listens to the voicemail when she needs a good laugh!

But all joking aside, when pressed, Theresa does admit to being very generous with her money.  “The only thing I really did for myself was get a pedicure and manicure. I really felt like since I was blessed with the money, I was to be a blessing to others.  I really tried to help out people who I knew were going through a tough time financially.  My greatest joy is bringing joy to others.”

Theresa says she was taught from a young age that you should always “think of others more highly than yourself.” This is something she learns each week at her local church, and an attitude she tries to pass on to the next generation at her job, as she works in the education field.

I just didn’t want this blessing to be stuck in my own avenue.  I wanted to share it with other people.  That’s how you get blessed again!,” she explains.  “And who knows, maybe I’ll win again on February 28th!”

We at Publishers Clearing House love Theresa’s attitude and her generous spirit, and we’re sure that this part of her character will continue for years to come!

Matt K.

P.S.  In past blog posts, many of you have mentioned that you’d also want to be generous with your winnings.  Who’s the most generous person you know, and how did they affect your life?  Tell us in the comments below!

MAY YOU HAVE LOTS MORE BLESSING MRS. THERESA CROWDER. I REMEMBER AS A CHILD WHEN I USE TO CLEAN THIS SMALL CHURCH ON THE WAY TO HIGH SCHOOL. THESE NUNS WERE ALWAYS THERE FOR ME. IF IWAS DOWN THEY ALWAYS LIFTED MY SPIRIT UP.WHEN I DIDN’T HAVE A PENNY TO MY NAME THERE ALWAYS WOULD SAY LOOKING UP AT THE SKY ASK GOD TO HELP YOU.THOSE NUNS REALLY HELP ME AS I WAS GROWING UP. AND THEY ALWAYS TOLD ME TO HELP PEOPLE WHEN EVER GOD GRANT YOU SOME MONEY. SO WITH THOSE WORDS I DID FOR 17 YRS OF VOLUNTEER FOR THE HOMELESS AND I ENJOY GIVING BACK. SO IF AM BLESSED I WILL CONTINUE TO HELP THOSE IN NEED. I PRAY TO WIN THE BIG ONE CAUSE I TOO HAVE DONE WITHOUT.BUT WHATEVER IT IS I WILL BE SO HAPPY.

I would have to say the most generous person I know is my aunt Sarah, she helps everyone in the family out as much as possible. My aunt Sarah has helped me out with money or advice whenever I needed it to pay bills or eat, that is a struggle to many of us have to deal with daily but she’s there if needed:)

I have to say that reading this has made my heart feel so good I am so happy to see others wiling to help out God Bless her. My Grandmother was the most giving and caring person I knew no matter who you was when you went to her house she would hug you and tell you that she loved you and yes she would even do this to a total stranger. I remember growing up I was very young when a young man came walking up t my grandmothers door he ask if he could mow her yard for some food and water my grandmother of course said yes and then she offered him a place to sleep for the night, I remember all the family being mad about it because the only people their was grandma and my uncle that was in a wheel chair they was worried about grandma, but I guess she could see the good in people the next morning the boy got up ate breakfast with grandma and uncle Carlos then went on his way. I have always wanted to be like grandma so I never turn anyone out and I try to help as much as I. Can afford to as for the boy they did see a picture of him on the news later on the evening he had left turns out the boy ran away from a boys home in Salem WV . I do hope that whoever wins the superprize will try to give and teach their children and grandchildren it is much better to give than to receive and the feeling you get from that is like no other in this world bless everyone.

So wonderful to read about Theresa and her giving heart. She is right, it all comes back. You see, she reaps what she sows and what she did by helping others was seed that will bring her a harvest. Some people call it karma, some say what goes around comes around (good or bad) and if they are smart enough to learn the biblical principle of the matter, they understand that it is a law: like the law of gravity> what goes up must come down. Once this truth is grasped, people learn that the higher power is supernatural. It is God and we are natural but with Him on our side, we become super-natural. That’s why we believe in miracles! :)

Hi Matt K. And Congratulations to Theresa and many more blessings to come… Congratulations again.. A
And of course Matt, I am a generous person when I have it…”Sharing is caring..right” lol. Anyhow the most generous person I know is my boyfriend. When we met at a in 03/2010 I was down and out looking for a exit to get away from all the commotion from my home. And ever since my life has changed for the better, he took in my children I took in he son we been living together and he has provided for me and took care of us for so long. I can’t thank him enough. But it is a bit sad sometimes, being unemployed and he been working at the same job when we first moved together. He make sure we have the necessities to survive. My life has changed completely, I earned my High school Diploma (Honors) we grew into a family and he is the best and sweet person I know besides my granddad …. I’m sorry Matt, I was about to go off in a life story lol. But he is special and changed my life and kids lives for the better….woohoo Love you chef Jamaale :):):):) Amen to that..

The most generous people I knew were my parents. Pastor Harold and Mrs Mary Johnson. They lived to help people and serve the community. Many times growing up I witness my parents sharing, and helping people by providing food, clothing, money, words of encouragement, and shelter to others in need. I have learned when you are blessed with abundance, you help and bless others in need. I strive to follow their example, and continue the legacy of service of helping people.

That was a beautiful winning story by Ms. Crowder. I think many people would also probably think of one or more people or organization that they might consider giving to if they won PCH. One of the most generous people in my life is my husband. I am grateful that I married a giving person. The most important thing is that he gives me his heart and shows he cares about my well-being. If I won a prize from PCH, I would definitely do something really special for him to thank him for working hard to take care of our family.

Congratulations! I am so glad you were blessed! Good things happen to good people! Never stop believing! Never stop praying! When my three sons and I had nothing, and were on REALLY hard times, I met my husband. We have six children between us and we struggle but we do have love for each other. My husband works 14, 15 hours per week and never complains! We wouldn’t be where we are if it wasn’t for him!!!

I have been reading more positive comments on PCH lately, people that want to give Thanks to God. These words of praise are what we all need to feel in our hearts, & let come from our mouths. To give God Thanks with a Grateful heart, instead of complaining about what He didn’t give or griping about the amount that He did give us. We need to give Thanks, cause God didn’t have to give us anything. That’s the spirit that needs to be in all of our hearts, cause there is always some one else who could use that gift right around the corner, but PCH is giving it to you. If I were to win something from PCH, no matter what it was I’d be Grateful.

Sometimes in life things don’t go as planned.I guess being a good caring person don’t mean the best for everyone.I guess I would say my sister has been the most generous person. And the reason is nomatter what she always been ther to help me. I know my dreams will come true for being the person I am. I’ve always give what I could to help and wanting nothing in return. So if my dreams come true so will others too.

Wow Matt K., that is a wonderful story and Yes, I totally agree about giving and sharing!!!

I am not sure on how to answer that question, because I think it is a lot of people in my life that have shown me how to be generous, but I really think it has to do with my family. Being generous is a great thing and I love to help others. I know I think about it all the time and if I won that fantastic prize for the 1Million a year “FOREVER” Prize then I could really help my family!!! It would truly be a blessing for all of us in my family!!!

I just wanted to say “Congratulations” again to Mrs. Theresa Crowder and her family!!!
