Today I’d like to introduce you to a very important person here at PCH: Michael Collins, Assistant VP & Controller, who helps us get those real checks ready for our winners.
Michael and the finance department work very closely with the sweepstakes administration and promotional development departments, so they’re always aware of all the new prizes being offered by Publishers Clearing House and ready to issue live checks once the lucky winners have been selected.
I asked Michael how he feels about being so directly involved in payouts that really help people and change lives. Says Michael, “Although it is not my signature that appears on the ‘Big Check‘ that we use for promotional purposes, it is my signature that frequently appears on the real checks that go to our winners. It is a very good feeling to know that I am a part of the PCH winning experience.”
However, there’s a lot more to Michael’s job than issuing checks! As the person responsible for the operation of the Publishers Clearing House finance department, Michael is involved in every area of finance for the company including accounting, treasury, accounts payable, accounts receivable, tax, payroll and internal audit, as well as the day-to-day transactions. Whew! I’m tired just listing them all!
But, Michael loves being involved in all the different aspects of finance at PCH. He says, “The best part of my job is the wide range of areas within the finance function and the people with whom I have the opportunity to work with on a daily basis throughout the company.”
Of course, Michael will never write one of those checks with his own name on it since employees are not eligible to win. But if he could become a SuperPrize winner, he says that he’d take a vacation with his family, pay off some bills and save money for his children’s education.

I got a phone call from some one saying that he was Michael Collins, saying that I had won the Mega prize! He gave me a code Conformation number and the works. When he said that I needed to get an American Express Gift Card I knew then that it was a scam in progress. He called back this morning to see if I had the card, he wanted the expiration date on the card, I told him that I wasn’t going to give the numbers on the card and he hun up on me.
The phone number that he used was 929 479 $$$$. After he called me I called the number and he answered with Publishers Clearing House.

I was contacted by someone named Michael Mecewen. He said he was representing Publishers Clearing house. He said I won a second chance sweepstakes. He said I won a large amount of money and the accountant was supposed to send me a check for $7,500.00 that was supposed to be mailed out to me yesterday to pay the taxes for the prize I won. I was contacted today claiming to be a grand prize winner, new red Mercedes, and several million dollars. Was given a claim winner #, instructions to get 3 cards (either One vanilla or American Express) with a certain amount on each card. These cards to be given at delivery time to the driver, but if not pleased or felt threatened in any way to keep the cards and just use for my own purchases. The purpose of turning over the cards was, to my understanding, pay the 1% tax. The names given to me were Michael Collins claiming to be Assistant VP and Controller, and his name does pop up under PCH. Also the head delivery man, Walter Reed, gave me a numbetr 541-502-8409 for verification.
