What Happens If I Win and I’m Not Home?

One of the most frequent questions we get asked here at Publishers Clearing House is “What happens If I Win and I’m Not Home?” Because this is SUCH an important question, we had the PCH Video Group put together a new video to answer it for you. It’s part of our new “PCH CHAT” series staring Howie, and the Prize Patrol! Watch below to find out what happens.

As Danielle and Todd explained in the video, if the winner isn’t home, the Prize Patrol does NOT give the prize to someone else. What they will do is WAIT for the winner to come home. Often times, they have to wait a really long time, which is what happened with Rory Bellamy, our $1 Million winner from November 2012, and Pam Barton. Can you believe the Prize Patrol waited a whole weekend for Pam?

In some cases, the Prize Patrol has even tracked winners down at work! Can you imagine getting surprised with a Big Check in person at your workplace? That’s what happened to our $10,000 winner Carol Copeland who the Prize Patrol surprised in front of a classroom full of students!

So remember everyone, the Prize Patrol ALWAYS finds their winner. So keep playing  and YOU could be next!

    1. Hi Alma! Please be careful, that’s a scammer. The real PCH doesn’t notify our major prize winners via phone, standard mail, email, or social media, and we never ask for money to claim a prize. Please report any details you have about that scam contact to us at this link: http://bit.ly/Report-Scam-To-PCH. I also encourage you to check out these Safety Tips for some great info on what to watch for: https://bit.ly/FraudProtection2. Stay safe everyone!!

  2. I have a different situation. The postal service does not deliver mail to the homes in my neighborhood. That’s why we all have to pay for a PO box.
So for decades I’ve been entering the sweepstakes every year with PCH only having my PO box address.
Then it occurred to me, what if I was the winner of a prize where they want to present it to me in person? How are they going to know where I live if all they have is appeal box. It’s actually in the next town over from where I live. So I went online and updated my contact information which also included a recent name change, and on the form there is an extra line that it says for apartment number, but I use that to put my mailing address in but the first line I squeezed in all the information for my physical address. So they actually have both of my addresses there now…. At least I hope that worked. Is there a better way to do this?

Like, I’d feel better if online you made it more clear, with two areas to put an address, one for a residential address (for obvious reasons), but then there’s another one for a mailing address “if different than residential”.

I would greatly appreciate any further instruction that you would have for me regarding making your record of both my mailing and physical address understood.

  4. Someone called me and left a securied lined on my email and told me I won. And gave me a number to give to the person when I reach them. He said he’s name was Dave Sayer and that but he was a foreigner.

    1. Hi Pamela! That is not the real PCH calling you; it’s a scammer that’s only pretending to be from PCH. Please do not call that number, do not give the scammer any personal info including bank account information, and definitely do not send them any money if they ask. If you haven’t already done so, please report that scam contact to us via the following link: http://bit.ly/Report-Scam-To-PCH.
