What Happens If I Win and I’m Not Home?

One of the most frequent questions we get asked here at Publishers Clearing House is “What happens If I Win and I’m Not Home?” Because this is SUCH an important question, we had the PCH Video Group put together a new video to answer it for you. It’s part of our new “PCH CHAT” series staring Howie, and the Prize Patrol! Watch below to find out what happens.

As Danielle and Todd explained in the video, if the winner isn’t home, the Prize Patrol does NOT give the prize to someone else. What they will do is WAIT for the winner to come home. Often times, they have to wait a really long time, which is what happened with Rory Bellamy, our $1 Million winner from November 2012, and Pam Barton. Can you believe the Prize Patrol waited a whole weekend for Pam?

In some cases, the Prize Patrol has even tracked winners down at work! Can you imagine getting surprised with a Big Check in person at your workplace? That’s what happened to our $10,000 winner Carol Copeland who the Prize Patrol surprised in front of a classroom full of students!

So remember everyone, the Prize Patrol ALWAYS finds their winner. So keep playing  and YOU could be next!

  2. I had Mr. James Wallace contact me today. He said he was a delivery man for Publishers Clearing House and wanted to know if I was home. I told him no, I was at work but would be home Thursday at 11 a.m. Is this a scam?

    1. Hi Lydia! Please report all contacts from scammers to PCH via this link: http://bit.ly/Report-Scam-To-PCH. PCH does partner with the Federal Trade Commission and we send all scam reports to them so please make sure you let us know anytime a scammer contacts you. Remember, the real PCH never notifies major prize winners via phone, standard mail, email, or social media, and we never ask winners to pay to claim their prize. You can see more Safety Tips here: https://bit.ly/FraudProtection2. Please be careful everyone; don’t become a scammer’s victim.

  3. On Wednesday Aug 23, 2023, I received a message from Danielle Lam with her photo ID scan card saying I won $25,000.00 win for life. My wife and I have cancer and we we’re very excited that we finally won something in our life to help us pay off our medical bills and our home off, Danielle Lam said I need to pay for the delivery fee of $100.00 to get the money. She said I can pay with Zelle, PayPal, Cash app or Gift card. She gave me a phone with the name of Diane Fuller $$$-$$$-$$$$ and a email address w$$$$$$$$$$@gmail.com. Once I send the money to her they will deliver the prize of $25,000.00 win for life to my doorstep. I copied all of the messages sent to me on my cell phone. For you all you have to do is give me a email address where to send them. I realized after going back and forth with them it was a scam. I never won anything in my life so I should have known it was a scam. I’m glad I did not send them any money. Thank you.

  4. I just received a voicemail from Washington, DC, with a 202-855-$$$$ number that said they were calling from the Federal Trade Commission on behalf of Publishers Clearing House concerning a large amount of money that I won. Is this a scam?

  5. Hi, I think I am being scammed on Facebook by someone named Daniell S. Lam, and she sent me photos of her with PCH and New York identification, and she said I won $400,000.00 and I had to pay an activation fee of $200.00 so I could receive my money. I told her I’d never heard of it, but she insisted on only paying the activation fee, which raised red flags for me. Is this true?
