#WinnerWednesday: How I Met the Family of a PCH SuperPrize Winner!

Greetings, fans and friends!

Boy, oh boy, do I have a story for you!

It’s a story so amazing that I’ve decided to forego my usual #WinnerWednesday blog to tell you the unbelievably true tale of how I met the family of a real PCH SuperPrize winner!!!

OK, so remember Penny Pompa? On April 30, 2014, Penny won a $1 Million PCH SuperPrize. Penny was not only sick in bed, praying for God to help her, when the Prize Patrol appeared at her door; she was also about to lose her home. In fact, Penny was expecting a visit from her mother, who was bringing her a meal, when instead, PCH dropped by with her “Big Check.”

On October 1st, my daughter Ruth’s college had its Family Weekend. My family went to visit Ruth, and she introduced us to her good friend Alex, who lives two doors down in the residence hall, and Alex’s family. After some chit-chat, Alex’s mother asked me where I work. I gave my usual answer, “Don’t laugh; I work for Publishers Clearing House.” (I add the “don’t laugh” part because my usual reaction is laughter, followed by “Is PCH real?”

“I’m not laughing,” said Alex’s mother. “My sister won a million dollars from you.”

And that, my friends, is how I met the family of PCH SuperPrize winner Penny Pompa!!!

In fact, Alex’s grandmother (Penny Pompa’s mother) was there, too, and she quickly pulled out her phone to show me a picture of her daughter holding the “Big Check” alongside Danielle Lam!

I just knew I had to write a blog about this crazy coincidence, to prove to you that real people win PCH prizes!

So, here’s the scoop on Penny Pompa: The PCH prize award was enough for her to purchase a house big enough for their family of four sons.  Her health has improved dramatically and she manages to work three part-time jobs. I reached out to her and here’s what she had to say:

“I will never forget the day that God showed up at my front door and gave me a miracle. In the darkest time of my life He was there for me through Publishers Clearing House. In April 2014 we were blessed beyond measure. Every day I wake up with a new sense of who God truly is.”

In addition, I asked Penny’s sister and Penny’s mother how they felt about Penny’s big win, and they both answered with the same strong faith as Penny.

Penny’s sister Maria said, God is so faithful and His promises are true and what happened with Penny was a super-sized miracle.”

Penny’s mom Carol said, A few years ago Penny went through a very rough time financially, personally and physically.  Everything in her life, except her faith in God, was falling apart.  On the morning of the PCH miracle I had planned to bring her dinner.  Just as I was leaving for her house she called me and, in a gravelly voice, said, ‘Mom…’  Immediately I thought, ‘she needs to go to the hospital.’ However, she continued, ‘I just won $1,000,000.’ We believe that God is in control and cares about every detail of our lives and she had cried out to the Lord with a desperate prayer that very morning. All of us have been amazed at this direct and dramatic answer to her heartfelt prayer. God does hear us!”

So, fans and friends, is this not the most incredible coincidence you’ve ever heard? What are the odds of meeting the family of a real PCH SuperPrize winner!!!

By the way, I couldn’t end my blog post without showing you the two college friends that made this whole story possible … my daughter Ruth (on the left) and her friend – Penny Pompa’s niece – Alex!
